Can I cook with plastic ramekins?

I have some plastic ramekins that my wife bought, they don’t say anything about being unsafe for cooking, but I thought I would check to see what you all thought before I chucked them in the oven filled with various yummy substances.

Has anyone cooked with plastic ramekins before, or do you think they would be unsuitable? What about if you use a hot water bath, like for making creme broule (whatever).

Are they actually labeled as ramekins, or do they just look like them. Either way, I don’t think I’d be comfortable putting them in the oven. Unless it was really low, maybe under 200 degrees.

They were labelled as ramekins in the store. I am thinking maybe I’ll put in just one, to test it

Is it hard plastic or is it soft and squishy? If it’s soft and squishy (like you can completely deform it with very little effort it’s probably silicone in which case it can withstand fairly high heat and shouldn’t be a problem to put it in the oven.

Most frozen dinners come in plastic trays that can go into a 350F oven for 30 min.

It’s not silicone, I have silpats and several silicone forms so I know what that’s like. These are very hard plastic. Mostly I have been using them as ingredient cups when I am making dinner. Measure spices, onions, garlic, etc into them and dump them in when I need them.

But I recently got a shiny new cheesecake pan, and it doens’t quite hold all the batter from my cheesecake recipe. So I was thinking why not put some of the leftover stuff into the ramekins and top with fruit and have yummy little tart thingies? But I don’t know if it would be safe.

But I really want the yummy little tart thingies.

Are they melamin?

I have no idea. They have no visible labelling describing their material, it just feels like hard plastic.
