Can I install Diablo II/LOD on my MacBook?

ETA: Should have put this in the subject but I want to install WITHOUT Windows.

I’ve surfed the web a bit on this and can’t find out conclusively. I own the PC versions of this game and am wondering if there is a way to play it on my new MacBook. I jus got the 13" MacBook Pro a few months back. It’s got OSx Lion on it.

When poking around on line it appears that it may be possible to play this but I’m having a hard time sorting through the bullshit to find the actual method. The only criteria I have is that I don’t want to install Windows on here just to play D2.

I heard that you can enter your serial # on Battlenet and just download the games now. Does this work on Mac?

Anyone able to help with this? I’m a Mac noob and don’t know all the little tricks so dumb it down for me.

Thanks!

You can definitely get the Mac version from battle.net. But I don’t know if the CD codes are the same for the PC and Mac versions. It won’t hurt to try, though.

If you can’t do that, I might be able to walk you through running Wine on your Mac, which will let you run Windows programs without actually installing Windows. The reason I say “might” is that I’ve never actually done it myself.

CD codes for Diablo II are all interchangeable. You won’t be able to install directly from your disks, but once you get it installed, the code will work. I’ve never used the Bnet installer for DII, though, so I can’t offer any advice on how to get that to work.

Ok. I owned D2 and thought I still had it packed away but apparently I don’t have the case any more so I’m screwed.

I was able to go and make a Battle.net account and it did accept my Windows versions of Warcraft 3 which is nice. I ended up just buying it digitally from Blizzard. Can’t believe these games still cost so much after all these years. Unreal.

One last question. Can Mac players play against Windows players online?

I fully expect that I’m viewing the game through rose colored history glasses and I just flushed $40 down the drain but oh well.

I wonder if D3 will run on this MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

An HD3000 is going to run it on low settings, but Diablo 3 is just as ugly on high as it is on low so you’re not missing anything. There is cross-play between the Mac and PC clients.

Crap. I bought and downloaded the games but they won’t install on this MacBook Pro. It says that Power PC programs are not supported any more.

What does this mean? Is there no way for me to play this game now? Wasted $40 if not. I didn’t see anything on the purchasing page to indicate that this wouldn’t work on a new Mac.

Help!

Ugh. It looks like I may be hosed unless I want to download other programs and horse around etc…

Looks like I may have to bootstrap after all. Didn’t want to do that…

Just download the OSX installer…

OSX installer doesn’t work for Lion. That’s the problem. They stopped supporting these legacy programs when they released Lion apparently.

All Blizzard games are cross-playable. Folks using any system with the game can play games with folks using any other system. Mostly, they’re released on cross-platform CDs, too.

I don’t know if there’s a solution to the issue with PPC binaries, though. I think Apple was a little premature in withdrawing support for them. Is there some setting you can change in Lion to run them?

I’m not smart on this Mac yet so I really don’t know.

Chronos: Not as far as I know.

You might be better off downloading the Windows version and running it through WINE. I said I would explain it, but it turns out I found a video on YouTube that both tells and shows you.

After you install, you ought to be able to run the Windows Installer on your Mac.
