Can I minimize the SDMP..

and still get current postings? Or does it sit in my computer and just be still?

I like the notification thingee (unless I’m reviewing emails with my boss and one pops up like “Why the fuck do people lie and think they can get away with it.”)and it would be nice to just pop it up and read the post referred to. I know that I can unclick the notifyer, but I like it!
Oh, and also…

could home page banner THE STRAIGHT DOPE be any bigger and eye catching? I have to go totally covert tofiddle around without every yay hoo that walks by blurting “Straight DOPE? WHASSAT?!!!” Sheesh.

You don’t get what you don’t ask for, so you’ll not be aware of any new posts unless you refresh/reload your browser or unless you do something that causes your browser to query the SDMB site, such as reply to a post or jump to a new forum. If you just let the page sit there, then it will just sit there like a bump on a computer.

Regarding images, you can disable them. For Internet Explorer: open the IE Properties window and select the advanced tab. Scroll down to the multimedia section and uncheck show pictures.

For Netscape: Open the preferences panel and hilight the advanced category. Uncheck the automatically load images option. You may have to dump your memory and/or disk cache, and you might even have to close Netscape & re-launch it.

I tried it with both browsers, and I must say that I prefer Netscape’s view of the SDMB without images to IE’s. As an added bonus (redundant, I know), your web pages will load faster, increasing your on line productivity.

Tell your boss it was all my idea.
