Can I pay someone ELSE to get rid of searchab virus?

Hi all,

Now, I realize that this was dumb. I’m not even sure how it happened, but it was probably from clicking on something-- searchab seems to be everywhere. I can’t seem to get rid of it. All directions for doing this online seem to involve a lot of activities that nobody except professionals should be engaged in. (You know how sometimes you’ll do one dumb thing, and then you try something else to fix it that’s even dumber, and before you know it, you’re wrapped up in a big ball of stupidity rolling down the hill as part of an avalanche…)

I found a malware program that blocks everything searchab tries to do, but doesn’t actually seem to be getting rid of it. The computer is now disconnected from the net and will remain so. I’m using the other one.

You know, I think that the best thing to do now is to step back slowly from the precipice of idiocy…

The question is, can I take this computer somewhere ELSE and have *them *get rid of it? There’s a very nice place right down the street. Almost close enough to walk.

try going to computerhope.com, post the information they need and they’ll have somebody walk you through the steps.

Yes, why couldn’t you? What do you think computer shops do?

Yup. Just call them first and ask for pricing. You’re so close, someone might be willing to come over, or you can lug it to them. Depending on what they charge, another option is Norton - they will do it for a C note, you give them temporary control of your computer in safe mode and you can watch them do it.

Well, everyone was warned that this was dumb… I’m looking on computerhope. I’m leaving on vacation first thing tomorrow, so there just may be no way to do anything about this until I get back. The other computer is disconnected and will stay that way until then.
