Can I post this in IMHO?

What is the best p2p client for downloading legal backups of obscure music?

How do you plan on guaranteeting that people will not post links to sites that are often/mainly used for illegal file sharing?

point taken. thanks for the quick response.

In general, how much responsibility does an OP have for the content and links posted by respondents?

Well, there’s no “general” rule for that. Let’s give some examples.

If you want to discuss the beauty of the female breast in IMHO, you’re not responsible if the third poster links to www.hugeinflatedknockerswithgiganticnipples.com (I hope to GOD that’s not a valid link ;)). We’ll remove the link, and leave the thread open.

If you want to discuss the sharing of legal MP3’s, it is almost impossible to talk about applications without potentially violating copyrights. If the OP specifically expresses that he is not looking for P2P applications, but rather for websites of e.g. bands that host legally obtainable MP3’s of their own work, we will leave it open unchanged - and we’ll delete any forthcoming links to apps that will let you swap any file.

Start a thread called “What’s the best P2P program?”, and you’ll find it closed.

Does that help?

It does somewhat, but not the extent that I’d be able to determine for myself in borderline cases. If I do at some point have an OP that’s iffy, I’ll ask about it.

Thanks.

Damn it, Coldfire! You got my hopes up! Maybe someday that site will exist…

Achernar - the point I was trying to make is that the thread would be very troublesome to moderate. Even if an OP has good intentions, some subjects are prone to invite posts that will require moderator intervention.
