Can I schedule Wifi to turn off during certain hours? Ipad, more detail inside.

I have an Ipad Air. Software version 12.4.5, no longer updating to the current iOs I think. Specifically it is model: md785ll/a

Anyway, I would like it shut off Wifi from 11PM-8AM daily without me having to manually turn it on and off. I would prefer if it could not be turned on during that time unless I put a password in or something. Even if the password option is not available, I’d like to to automatically shutoff its Wifi during those hours.

Is that possible? If so, how?

Are you trying to keep it quiet so you can sleep, or are you trying to keep it from being used?

For the first, you can set up Do Not Disturb in Settings.

For the latter, you’ll probably have better luck with your WiFi router. Some allow time-based disabling of access, or if nobody should have access at night, you can put the router on a lamp timer so it’s turned off at night.

No, iOS doesn’t have any way to script things like that. There are some sort-of-hackish things that maybe sometimes work involving shortcuts, but they’re not reliable.

I assume this is so that the user of the iPad can’t go online during that time without a parent intervening? I agree that setting up a restriction like that in your router is going to be an easier way of implementing this.

Most routers can do this. Some don’t make it as obvious, but they can still do it.
I have my router set up so my daughter’s phone, ipad and firestick all lose wifi at 10pm on school nights.

About a year ago she realized she just has to turn the wifi on her phone off so it uses cellular data (but then she burns through her data too quickly). At some point she’s bound to figure out she can set up her phone as a hotspot and connect the other devices to it.

How does one setup a router to do this? I am clueless as to how to do that.

Google your specific model of router and how to adjust it’s settings. There are numerous sites that can help you.

Considering your lack of tech skills, be prepared that your children (assuming this is the reason you are contemplating this) are most likely smarter than you as it comes to tech things, and they also know how to research these types of things as well, so be prepared they may figure out how to undo whatever you are attempting to do.

For me, I log into my router (TP-LINK C1900) and there is a “parental controls” option where I can set this info. As for how to log into the router, usually it’s something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 or 10.0.0.1. If you don’t know, just google your make and model of modem along with “ip address”, as it can vary a good bit, or if you know how to get into a terminal, just traceroute something like 4.2.2.2 and the first hop should tell you where your router is.

Oh, wait. An iPad also has parental controls on it.

Settings > Screen Time > This is my Child’s iPad and set it from there.

The OP hasn’t actually confirmed this is the scenario of concern. But why else would someone be interested in removing WiFi access from 11PM to 8AM?

Yes, but…

In the arms race between you as a non-tech-savvy parent and a determined, tech-savvy child, you are outclassed.

Case(s) in point:

This lists 12 common and easy “hacks” around the default types of Parental Mode restrictions in iOS that kids definitely either know, share, or know how to look up. You can now, of course, look out for or block these maneuvers ahead of time, but there are 12 more behind these, and so on, right?

That, and getting around blocks is a fun challenge unto itself. Not sure how old you are, but I certainly remember fooling around as a teenager with phones and cable boxes to get free calls and to watch “scrambled” channels (sort of), not because I had to or even had a real reason to do so, but just for seeing if I could.

The easiest device-based solution is to remove the device(s) in question from their possession when they go to bed. As long as they have a cell phone with a data plan, they can always just use it or use the phone as a hotspot, even router-level disabling of wifi on a device/MAC address basis won’t help with that.

Does IFTTT exist in the Apple App environment (wouldn’t know, I’m on an Android)? Sounds like it would do exactly what the OP wants.

One solution would be to get 2 wireless routers (set to different channels), one is on all the time the other on a timer. Connect the ipad to the one on the timer.

Umm… Maybe Parental Controls?

Seconded. unless there is some specific need for others to have internet after hours…a basic lamp timer is extremely useful for this.

I believe this has worked. I think it allowed me to lock the entire Ipad from 12AM-7AM, the hours I was hoping to block it from.

My router’s calendar/schedule system would not remember my changes. I attempted to schedule the Ipad to be off the router from those hours, but it would not remember.

Now, I am trying to find the parental controls to do the same for our Asuz Zenpad and the kids first generation Kindle Fire(Fire Tablets, actually).

Thank you, everyone. I think I have all my devices set up the correct way now. I appreciate your help.
