This is a free message board and the Chicago Reader runs it as they see fit; if this is a serious issue for you, rather than an excuse to take shots at one of the mods, perhaps you would be happier posting at another message board or starting a message board of your own.
This applies to Sandwriter and Beastal, also - the SDMB is not the place for everyone, and if you are unhappy or uncomfortable here there is no reason for you to hang around and complain about the management.

I’m still fairly new here and was a bit on the shocked side to see FUCK in the GQ area as I was (FUCKING, WAS, PAST TENSE) under the impression that swearing was reserved for the Pit. I posted a question in the Pit to see what other people who have been on the board a hell of a lot longer than me thought about it and I may have phrased the question wrong, but now I KNOW, I HAVE LEARNED, a little more about the sub-culture that is the SDMB Message board.
No where did I say I was unhappy or uncomfortable. Are you projecting that on to me? Are you unhappy and uncomfortable?
And I am not hanging around here to complain about the management. I posted one question. I would hope that I could post one or two questions when I see something I don’t expect, and/or haven’t ever seen before.

We’re making progress, but I’m still confused. Perhaps you can help me out one more time, bnorton. If you don’t care about either of those things, exactly what is it that bugs you so? Throw this stupid old dog a bone and tell me plainly. I grow weary of dragging each little detail out of you; it’s interfering with my nap.
SandWriter, FWIW, what you just read in this thread was pretty standard for any Pit thread questioning a moderator’s actions, no matter what they were, and no matter how the OP is phrased. Please don’t take any of it as being personally directed at you. This kind of thread pretty much gets the same responses every time:
The Mod was right.
The Mod was wrong.
If you don’t like it here, then leave.
So nobody’s suggesting that you, personally, should scram–these are just typical responses for this kind of thread. We get plenty of Pit threads criticizing moderators that aren’t simply looking for information, but are only interested in flaming the mod in question, hence we tend to get in the habit of posting Response #3 to any and all mod-criticizing OPs.
OK, maybe we need to review my posts. Basically I have addressed two things.
I believe that manhattan was over the top when he closed the * “Bus your own dang table”* thread. Had he simply said “This discussion is no longer appropriate for General Questions. I am moving it to the Pit.” or something to that effect then the Pit would have inherited the kind of lively, vituperative thread that it is famous for instead of this lame thing, and everyone would go home happy.
I have stated that moderators are not above criticism. This was in response to ** coosa** and others who seem to think that if any of us don’t like the way the moderators are doing their jobs then we should go away.
I love this board and I think the moderators do a great job all and all. Still I don’t think that manhattan handled that other thread very well, and I think it is perfectly legitimate and in keeping with the spirit of SDMB to call him on it.
Well, YOU weren’t the one who had to sit up with manhattan all night, holding his hand in the dark while he shook with fever, sporadically bolting upright in his bed and staring out with unseeing eyes, perspiration coursing down his brow, muttering “He…he didn’t think I handled that other thread very well!”
He’s worked his fingers to the bone to make this place what it is, and you come in with your petty feeble quibbling and grind him into the dirt.
Ahh. So you’re mad that he closed it instead of moving it. Or am I still reading that wrongly? Are you saying that he was “over the top” when he closed the thread? Or do you mean he was “over the top” because of how he closed the thread?
If it’s “when,” then you are correct; it’s no big deal because one is always free to start a new thread in the Pit. If it’s “how,” I believe I’ve already addressed that.
And actually you’ve addressed more than two things, but some of them are of no more consequence since they’re settled issues.
That’s only partially true, Sandwriter. I really wished to know exactly what about manhattan’s closing of that thread, so irked bnorton. But, yeah, now we’re just havin’ a little fun at his expense. Probably ain’t the nicest thing to do, so I apologize you you b.
I always try to evaluate complainst about staff behaviour seriously. But it helps if the poster complaining doesn’t come in and say “I don’t give a crap about the difficulties inherent in your job.”
SandyWriter - the rough reception you got here was ably explained by Duck Duck Goose. These “the moderators are wrong” threads are a dime a dozen at the SDMB, and some of our posters are tired of them, which might explain the “if you don’t like it, leave” attitude, which is definitely not the staff’s position on the issue.
Making fun of bnorton - the irony of someone pointing out “moderators should be able to take unlimited amounts of shit without complaining”, and then screaming in frustration after only one thread with a few posters disagreeing with him, was just too flagrant for me to avoid pointing out. I hope bnorton now has a better understanding of why moderators sometimes use a sarcastic tone in the exercise of their duties. I suppose I could have made the point without making fun of him, but I’m only human, same as you and borton.
