Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park, in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards. That’s my policy.
Okay, fine … quotes be damned. This is some of the finest comedic work that Leslie Nielsen ever did.
This is what I always assumed it was, I’m kind of surprised there are other interpretations. I think people are over-thinking it.
Anyone got a link to the Naked Gun joke video?
I presume we don’t see the anklet, but I’d still like to see it for myself and see which explanation makes the most sense to me.
I hope all of you are watching Angie Tribeca.
My favorite joke in the original series was a sight gag. The cops went to a place called Club Flamingo. The club’s sign was an animated neon sign of a club hitting a flamingo over the head.
Surely that’s from 48 Hours. :dubious:
We do see the anklet, and I always thought it was something worn on her genitalia as well. On the other hand (so to speak), she could be implying that it slid down from her wrist somehow, so I’m willing to grant that possibility.
Or maybe she just likes to wear her anklets up on her thighs (implying her legs are extremely thin). Who knows?
I’ll have a black Russian, (30 seconds in)
And don’t call me Shirley!
Wow… It didn’t even cross my mind to do a search to see if someone else had the same question. So I’m not the only one in the world having a question about a decades old movie’s joke that for some reason I think about from time to time. I feel vindicated!
Does anyone like that show? It’s like a failed SNL sketch that got caught in a lab accident and took on a life of its own. I can’t change the channel fast enough, commercials for it included.
Lighten up. It’s just a TV show. It has its moments. Jeesh.
I like it fine, that’s why I brought it up. Maybe the joke is stretching a bit thin at times, but it has moments of pure genius, and I could see it going for a third season.
Youtube doesn’t seem to show the clip unfortunately but I did come across this:

I still think people are wrong, the ‘wrist bracelet’ interpretation fits in with the tone and silliness of the show, a garter or genital jewelry slipping down her leg? I don’t see how that’s funny at all.
Its a different kind of humour altogether.
This appears to be the real David Zucker’s Twitter account, if you want to ask him. I suspect it’s an unreliable avenue, but what the heck.
An IUD or diaphragm?
Its a different kind of humour
In real life, the only place to wear an anklet is on one’s ankle. The implication that Jane wears it somewhere else is funny by itself, regardless of what the somewhere else is (which is probably why they leave it to your imagination).
It’s a different kind of humor.
