My friend was lamenting that he would love to know the name of the classical piece played by Data in a violin solo on a Next Generation episode. I told him the Dope would not let me down, so show your stuff, guys. Does anybody know the name of it? He said he knows it’s a classical piece but that’s about all he knows. Thanks in advance!
Which episode? :dubious:
In “Ensigns of Command” he played “Eine Klein Nachtmusik” with a quartet.
In “Inheritance”, he plays a piece, but I can’t find the title anywhere.
Thank you, Mr. Blue!! I’ll pass the info on. Bosda, that’s all that he seemed to know…I asked him if that was the only episode in which Data played a violin, and he said he thought so…I didn’t imagine there were multiple episodes in which this happened…apparently there are at least two, though.
This isn’t a violin solo, but in the ST:TNG episode “Sarek,” there is a musical episode that is misidentified in the script as being by Mozart. It’s actually from Brahms’ Sextet #1 in B Flat Major, Op. 18 (second movement). Data plays violin in an onscreen quartet. The music is so moving that Spock’s father, Sarek, weeps.
If he can remember the tune, he can try finding it here: http://www.musipedia.org/
In the episode titled “Inheritance,” the solo piece which Data is playing for his mother, in his quarters, is a “Passacaglia,” originally from “Harpsichord Suite in G minor” (HWV 432), composed by George Frideric Handel, and arranged by violinist Johan Halvorsen. The piece is usually performed as a duet for violin and either viola or cello.
