Can someone summarize the Brett Favre retirement fiasco?

Nitpick: he only won one super bowl. Same number as Aaron Rodgers, as a matter of fact!

Since the Broncos don’t exist they faced no one in '98.

Allow me, as a fan of Cal football, to comment on this very common, but yet misinformed, trope.

Circa 2004-2005, Cal football became suddenly relevant after years in the dumper, and the media started to notice that hey, that Tedford guy has sent a bunch of QBs into the NFL. He must be totally awesome.

2008 and beyond…Cal returns to the tank, and the media notice that none of those Tedford QBs have panned out in the League. He’s a bum.

This is just a case of the media tearing down what they built up. In fact, it ignores the pretty grim statistics about college QBs: most of them, even the very successful ones, don’t make it in the NFL. And it isn’t a college coach’s job to turn out successful pro QB’s – it’s his job to turn out successful college QB’s, and Tedford (until 2008) did just that. If NFL GM’s waste a first-round pick: that’s their problem, not the college coach’s.
