I don’t want a debate on steroids in baseball. I have my own opinions on who did or did not do what.
One of the things that gets thrown out there regarding certain sluggers (ok, Bonds) is “look at how big his head is!” I have little doubt they can make your muscles bigger, and cause you to hit more home runs, but I doubt they can increase the size of your skull.
Have any studies been done, or photographic evidence presented which suggests that they can actually make your head bigger?
Speculation is invited as to how this thing might have started. Maybe it puffs up your face a bit?
I don’t have any evidence but I think it does.
Just take a look at Arnold Schwarzenegger’s head, or the guy who plays the brother on deathrow in the tv-show “Prison Break”.
I have only seen those types of heads on body-builders that take steroids.
Now it might be that people with heads like that are more predisposed to take steroids to make their body fit their head, but somehow I don’t think that’s very likely.
Human Growth Hormone (HGH) can make bone plates grow, leading users to have enlarged hands, feet, and I think head bones.
I am not sure anabolic steroids have the same effect.
I suspect Barry Bonds took HGH (WAG, and I have no evidence – but it is very popular among athletes/steroid users because it leads to lean muscle growth).
I don’t see any huge differences in Caminiti, and he was an *acknowledged *steroid user, right? I’ve seen these before-and-after comparisons for Bonds and others, but to me it’s hard to separate out the effects of aging, plus some overall weight gain, plus different facial hair, etc. I never see a smoking gun, and it does seem to me that people are trying to read too much these pictures. I mean, would people think of Barry Bonds as a steroid user if he merely bulked up and hit a lot of home runs? I don’t think so – it’s the third-party evidence in his case that’s led to all the bad press.
