I bought a glass topped patio table last year. Somehow, in a fall thunderstorm, the glass top shattered, so now I have a table with no top.
I can have the glass top replaced (and risk having it shatter again, that was a bitch to clean up), but I was thinking of creating a mosaic top for the table. I’d like to make sure that the table frame will handle the weight of the mosaic before I put the work in. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you know any message boards that would be able to help me?
Go to askme.com; they have message boards for just about everything! Also any good arts/crafts stores will have books & supplies; though you can use just about anything (old tiles, dishes, bottles, little stones…)
I’ve made several mosaic table tops. They’re heavy but no problem as long as the base is metal.
Zyada, I think that’s a great idea. You might take a board, put it across your frame and put a few heavy objects on top and see how your frame takes the weight.
Zyada, I have a stone mosaic tabletop but no frame on which to put it. My dad passed it on to me years ago when I was in my “Sure, I’ll take whatever piece of furniture you have” phase. I was just wondering the other day what on earth to do with the thing.
You don’t happen to live within driving distance of Albuquerque, do you?
Sorry, InternetLegend - unless you consider 12 hours within driving distance, I’m a little far away (Ft. Worth) Also, I doubt that they are the same size - mine is a rectangle about the size of a normal dining room table.
