Can we get a better color/highlight on links in a post?

On my computer links in a post barely stand out. I have provided a pic below but that actually seems a little bit better than what I really see on my screen.

I have a good PC and good monitors and I am not asking for some extreme change. Just something that stands out a bit better.

Ok…this is weird. I used my cell phone to take a screen pic and it also showed an easy(ish) to discern link.

But I swear it is a lot harder to see when looking at the screen.

I guess I need my eyes checked. (for real)

I’ve specifically asked that the underline be added back to the link attributes . This would likely have to be done in each theme.

It all depends on the color settings on your monitor how easy it is to discern the blue vs. black, and how good each user can discern color. An underline just helps with accessibility without trying to find the perfect color.

Until that point, I’ve been manually adding underlines to links when I don’t just use the cards.

Changing your theme preference might help.

I have the same complaint. At least to my eyes on my screen with the “Straight Dope Light” theme links are hard to see. Especially once the screen itself switches to “reduced blue” mode in the evening.

As a courtesy to others I’ve take to bolding the links I put in my posts: wiki on boldface. I cannot take credit for this idea; I learned it from @Machine_Elf.

In the onebox format that Discourse creates for some standalone links, the main link is usually rendered bold. So this manual technique echoes Discourse’s built-in one:

p.s. It’s funny that in a thread about formatting and a ref to a wiki article about formatting, Discourse makes a hash out of formatting wiki’s introductory paragraph. At least there’s no mojibake.

With my theme, links look just fine, but anything bolded barely looks different at all (the text is actually just a hair smaller and thinner, kinda the opposite of bold), when someone quotes a thread and says ‘bolding mine’, I really have to strain to figure out what’s bold and what isn’t.

For my edumacation, which theme would that be?

Vincent

Thank you. Wow that’s different.

As you say, all of bold, italic, and bold + italic are simply a smaller text size . There’s no extra stroke weight at all. At least on my screen the emphasis color is obvious, kind of aqua as against the ordinary white text on the black background.

I fiddled with some of the other themes. The “Straight Dope Dark” theme is also light text on dark background but renders bold, italic, and bold + italic in the typical way. And links are a decently contrasting blue whether or not the poster bolded their link.

You might find that theme helpful. It’s not quite as artful as Vincent, but it seems more functional.

It’s not that big of a deal and I’m pretty used to this theme now. But it seems not that many people use this theme so I assume very minor things like this get overlooked, hence mentioning them in threads about similar issues in other themes.
