Please, can links be in color?

Perhaps someone has already asked this. Perhaps I can do this myself? Is it a function of the Board Admins/Mods?

I’ll go crazy if links are the same color as text.

When you get time.

Well, you now can post in living colours

Can links be automatically posted in color so’s they can be noticed?

They’re colored now. We may tweak the color a bit, though.

Aren’t they in color already?

Testing, testing, one, two, three

Mine are coming out blue, with the text black.

Simulpost.

Eh, I’m not crazy about the Forum main pages being in blue. Makes my eyes go in and out. wo-wo-wo-wo-wo

IMO the black is better.

Wow! You guys really are god-like. Much better. Thanks.

Blue & black? I have a tough time telling similar colors apart. They both look like the same dark color to me, whatever color that is. Maybe I can ask my browser to show them to me with brighter colors…

Test Link

I got both IE and Communicator to show links in red (unvistited) and green (visited). Lib’s link is red for me now!

So much for your drab selection of shades of black & blue!

My link was written as red. This link should be hot pink and bold. This link should be lime green and italic.

Is there some trick to get visited links to change to a different color? I would like the links to visited threads to show up in a different color than unvisited threads. It worked that way on the old version of the board, but with this version (and the temp board) my links are always the same color. I am using IE 5.5 and the browser option is set to have different colors for visited and unvisited links.

Yes, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze?

In Communicator preferences, select Appearance->Colors. There you can tell the browser to show visited links as lime green and unvisited as fuchsia, or whatever you like. But then you have to check the button that says “use my colors, overriding the page’s colors”. You may have to do some tweaking to get the page background to some appealing color. Mine went bright white when I did this, but I think I’ll set it to gray.

I haven’t looked into the steps involved with IE but it’s got to be along the same lines under Tools->Options.

I have IE. I did what you said, and it changed the colors of Last Thread/Next Thread, and links in threads. But when I was finished cruising through MPSIMS and went back to the forum page, none of the links had changed color, as they used to. So I’m back to square one.

I see that. I’ve made the same settings changes in IE but did not get the same results I got with Communicator. I wonder why.

I’m having trouble following all this (and you’re right, I haven’t had any coffee yet this morning). I’ve got Win ME and IE 5.5 and on my computer the links all show up as a dark navy blue, with the text in dark gray (except for the links where the poster specified that they should be displayed as fuchsia or lime green). This is fairly difficult to see–I’m having trouble distinguishing the links from the dark gray text.

I don’t see a function under “Tools–Options” for changing the text color in displayed links, or in “threads visited”. Where is everybody getting, “You can tell your browser to show you the links in different colors”? Now, I’m not talking about links you make yourself, in your own post, like if you want it to be fuchsia or something. I’m talking about all the links on the entire board. For me, all the links on the entire board show up as dark navy blue, except for the ones where the poster specified fuchsia or lime green.

Over on the UnaBoard, she’s got the same version of VBulletin, and nearly the same color scheme, but all the links on the Unaboard show up for me as a bright fluorescent blue, which is much easier to see. Is that a setting that she’s made at the administrative level? It must be, because I don’t change anything on my computer when I go over there.

It’s a custom hack I did. I’ll be happy to share, if the SDMB is interested and asks me about it.

It’s working now. THANKS to the SDMB team!

Anthracite - I wish I would have seen your post before! Thanks for the offer of help and the other suggestions.

The colour for “visited” links has been changed. Gaudere, web designer extraordinaire, suggested colour “666666” for visited links. I’m not even going to ask why she picked that one.
