Not always. I’ve seen a couple in IMHO lately but I have too much of an after-work-case-of-the-lazies to go find one and link it. And if one starts there and goes astray I have seen it moved to either GD or Elections based on the direction it takes.
Something this important; maybe we should vote on it. After an adequate period of time to allow conflicting sides to campaign for their view.

Just want to bump this thread to say that, at this moment, 7 of the first 10 posts are something political based, most of which were started yesterday.
Maybe I’m still missing the point, but why can’t these be in the elections thread? Unless you’re specifically trying to get non-political people’s opinion can we please keep them in Elections?
Just because something mentions Trump doesn’t mean it can’t be in MPSIMS. If a thread turns out to be another political rant or debate I will move it.
ETA: I don’t think it’s currently much of a problem in MPSIMS. Right now a quick look shows two active threads in the first 50 that are overtly political one of which I might wind up moving if it becomes more of a political debate.

I mean sure, 'who was the president with the lowest % of popular vote" is a legit GQ question. But those can & do veer off.

Only if we institute a sort of electoral college system that gives disproportionate representation to the smaller number of non-Americans on the SDMB. 
This seems like a no-brainer. I’m surprised it hasn’t been done already.

I’ve been wondering this for years. I really think it needs to be revisited and I also don’t think it’d be especially hard to identify threads which are primarily political and shoo them over there, either.
Man, I do not envy the mods, it’s going to be a rough 4-8 years…on this board.
