Can we please get knowledgable commentators?

Am I the only one who is consistently bothered by the quality of the commentary by the ESPN announcers in this World Cup? It grates on me to hear them expose their lack of soccer knowledge, virtually with every thing they say. Jack Edwards wouldn’t know a true “50/50 ball” if it bit him on the leg. And how often do they show a lack of knowledge regarding the laws of soccer, especially the reasons for receiving a caution?

In this morning’s games, we are told constantly that France need to win by two goals to advance, an incorrect statement. France advance by any win where they score at least 2 goals and Senegal wins or ties. Though it would be nice to see France go out (would teach the elite in the soccer world not to play complacently), I would love to see France win 2-1 just to see how the ESPN announcers deal with learning that France has advanced.

It can’t be too hard to find and develop quality announcers. If we are to have people watch soccer, we need to have decent commentary, not commentary that knowledgable people scoff at.

All of which becomes fairly accademic with the halftime scores as follows:Denmark/France - 1:0
Senagal/Uruguay - 3:0 (Uruguay scored in the first minute of the 2nd half)

Grim

Part of the fun of watching football is scoffing at the commentators. Lighten up.
