Can we talk about Bill Cosby?

You clearly haven’t met dalej42 before. Read his posts on this message boards and you could easily believe that any accusation of rape is prima facie evidence that the woman is a gold-digging whore. It’s a disgusting worldview, but he seems to hold it in all seriousness.

This thread shows that Cosby’s strategy of targeting women that are easy to ignore and belittle was spot on.

His actions also support the idea that people who rape do so because of a pathological need to dominate. A man in his position could get all the consensual sex he could ever want. Why wasn’t that enough? Because of his desire to take something from his victims that is not freely given.

It sickens me so much I can’t understand how anyone can defend this man. The image of Beverly Johnson staring him dead in the eye and cursing him the hell out is the only the aspect of this sordid tale that gives me satisfaction. Her strength took away his thrill, and he couldn’t take being told about himself.

If your mother or sister claimed Bill Cosby had raped them would you believe them?

even sven if you’re still around and still reading this thread, can you repost your list of all of the reasons people should not/are not believing the rape allegations? It was an excellent summary.

Don’t forget:
4. They were drugged and raped. They felt powerless to go after a wealthy and famous star, and their support network told them to not pursue it. They’ve carried around this awful event for years until someone finally made it OK to come forward and share their story.

I don’t think all women who make rape claims are gold diggers.

  1. Erica Kinsman, the accuser of Jameis Winston did not start out as a gold digger. Her rape claims were either an attempt to cover up that she was having regular consensual sexual with black men and/or an attempt at revenge on Winston when he wouldn’t leave his girlfriend for Erica.

Erica became a gold digger, perhaps influenced by her attorney aunt, when Winston had his great season last year and showed he was a likely high NFL draft pick.

  1. Jackie Coakley, from the Virginia/Rolling Stone false rape allegations story isn’t a gold digger. I believe she’s perhaps mentally ill and obsessed by rape stories.

  2. With Ray Rice, it’s not a rape case. I do think Janay Palmer decided to marry Ray Rice immediately after the charges were filed to make prosecution difficult and save Ray Rice’s career. A quickie marriage like that was also likely done without a prenuptial agreement. This will allow Janay to make claims on whatever money Ray has left prior to the marriage.

I… ahem… I will have to admit her story is the one I’d have to pick as false if I had to. The brutal dragging down the stairs doesn’t fit with what Cosby seems to do in these incidents. And is there a drug that will knock you out after two sips in dilution? Iunno… this may be in the “something happened but she’s exaggerating/remembering-wrong category.”

She wasn’t knocked out, she felt drugged. As far as the dragging down the stairs, how many other women started yelling and cursing him out?

Okay, let’s accept there is some parts of her story that are misstated because of memory issues. Like, maybe she wasn’t dragged all the way down the steps. Maybe she actually walked down some of them and slipped the rest of the way. For instance.

Do you doubt he drug her? Because that is the one element of her story that jibes with all the others.

Being raped is the most significant one.

Many of the accusers are famous, rich, and have had very successful careers.

Of course. After a very long and very successful modeling career, she is now, at age 62, whining and pointing fingers because she didn’t get a part 40 years ago.

What? What charges are you talking about?

Good points.

Go fish.

This comment is so appalling it kind of makes me want to leave the Dope and never come back.

I won’t. I like this place so much. But I keep coming back to this, trying to formulate a response, and I just don’t have the words. :frowning:

Damn it. It’s not like these things are standard issue. You really have to know someone who knows someone.

Heed your own sage advice from a few weeks back: “Maybe I don’t need to correct everything I see wrong on the Internet”

Just look at the sign-up date. THe Cosby and Rolling Stone/UVA stories are dragging out a flock of would-be MRA types who are actually Women-Are-Teh-Evil Advocates, in all sorts of forums including this one. And we don’t just ban people for being full of what they’re full of, so we just  and tell them they’re full of it.

Especially give consideration to the join date. It might be worth debating a long-time Doper. Someone whom you have no idea of who he is or his track record, it wouldn’t be so worthwhile debating with.

Honestly, if you really analyze board participation, these people make up a tiny minority of Dopers. I consider this one of the sanest places on the internet. Embrace the good.

You have to consider the source. This guy, MojoSoDope, has only made two posts and has already been mod-noted. He’s a seagull.

Some people say “These stories are too similar to be believable.”

So here there are a few differences in the sequences of events and now it’s too dissimilar to be believable.

So either a person can never deviate significantly from nor hew too closely too a pattern. Because those things don’t happen in the real world.
