Can you block a web page in Netscape?

Help appreciated.

No, you can’t. However, there is third party software that will do what you want to do - NetNanny, CyberPatrol, etc.

Yeah, sure you can, depends what version of Netscape. Look under ‘communicator’ then ‘tools’.

That’s where I was messing around all afternoon. Could you be more specific?

I have never used Netscape so I have no idea but I know Handy well enough to know he’ll drive you nuts and never make it clear.

I have a better solution: disconnect the computer from the phone line.

I threatened to yank the hub out. I give MCAfee a license to kill, and they go back and find Very Funny.HTM.

I have the newest version of Nutscrape (Courtesy of Doobieous ;)) 4.75, and there is nothing in communicator-tools that you can use to block a specific web page.

OK, they are somehow getting Very Funny.htm. We use Netscape although one user today started up IE. No mail accounts, unless someone has AOL that I don’t know about. Downloaded graphics files get renamed with a VBS extension and harbor the virus. The homepage becomes this moronic virus warning page. IE downloads something (guess what I think it is) when it goes there, presumably running a Visual Basic script. This fellates with great allacrity.
Maybe I’ll take a flamethrower to work Monday.

Yeah, being deaf you don’t get all the info, so often, you tend to not give all the info because one things thats the accepted way. Anyway, under H:
To specify Web sites that others can always or never see

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Internet Options icon.
Click the Content tab.
In the Content Advisor area, click Enable.
If you’ve already enabled Content Advisor, click Settings, and then type the supervisor password.

Click the Approved Sites tab, type the Internet address (URL) of a Web site, and then choose whether you want others to always or never have access to this site.
Repeat this process for each Web site that you want to set access for.

That works for IE, not Netscape.
Thanks anway!

Sorry, that was for IE 5 or better. I use both browsers & forget which one Im using.

For Netscape: see

Netscape NetWatch

NetWatch is Netscape Navigator's built-in ratings protection feature. It lets you control what
kind of web pages can be viewed on your computer.

       PICS Ratings Standard

NetWatch uses an Internet rating standard known as PICS - the Platform for Internet Content
Selection. PICS is designed to help parents, teachers, and employers screen out material
they feel is inappropriate for children or employees. PICS gives web publishers a standard
way to describe the content of web pages; it gives browsers like Navigator a standard way to
       read the description.

NetWatch recognizes two independent PICS-compliant ratings systems, RSACi and
SafeSurf. Each system employs a different method to describe in as much detail as possible
the levels of potentially offensive content on web pages.

Web site publishers voluntarily rate their pages using one of these systems. You can choose
one or both of the rating systems and decide what levels are acceptable to you in the
       NetWatch setup process.

       How NetWatch Works

Once you turn NetWatch protection on, when anyone uses your Netscape Navigator to
access a web page, NetWatch compares the page's rating with the levels you have
determined to be acceptable. If a page contains higher levels than the ones you have set,
NetWatch prevents the page from being displayed. You can also set NetWatch to block
pages that have not been rated.

Your NetWatch settings are protected by a password. No one can change the settings or
bypass NetWatch protection unless you enter your NetWatch password. If you decide to
view a page that NetWatch has blocked, you can temporarily disable NetWatch protection by
       entering your password.

Your NetWatch settings always remain private. Neither Netscape nor any of the web sites
that you vist can read or keep track of your settings.

Thats the best I can do. Visit that site to enable Net Watch.

Thanks, Handy!

I know what I’ll be doing Monday!
