I remember reading a book of various obscure facts divided by several chapters. It had a few good pictures in it and it had countless facts about very old people, Zhang Xianzhong, and a whole bunch of other things I never suspected. It had a dark blue hardbound cover I think and it was written in the '70s or '80s.
You sure it wasn’t a copy of The Straight Dope?
Wow! What a coincidence! I am also looking for a book! It was published sometime in the last 30 years, I think, and had a cover, and pages, and black marks all over most of the pages. I think it was about stuff, like maybe people or islands or cars, and some of the stuff had names.
Can You Find This Book?
The Book of Lists?
Sounds like a Time/Life something or the other.
Where did you read it?
Curtis, I’ve got a book I’d like to recommend you. PM me if you want more details.
You’ve got a lot to learn about obscure facts.

I’ll have to check at home but I think I may own this book. It was just called something like “The Book of Trivia” or something similar (“Big Book”? “Giant Book”?). Hardback, dark blue cover, gold or yellow text on the spine and kind of laughably dated.
He has a paperback version and it mentions woodcuttings in the one review below. I think mine might be this same book but in hardback. Mammoth Book of Trivia sounds about right.
I’m certain it wasn’t Time/Life. I read it at a school classroom library.
That might be it, I think.
Another possibility:
Maybe Isaac Asimov’s book of Facts.

You can see some sample pages in the Amazon link. Read, and see if it’s familiar.
I’m also looking for somethig. I know it is a poster to this message board and they like to open up threads and threadshit in them because they think they are so cool and better than everyone else.
Wait. Nevermind I found them.
That was my guess. I read the cover off my copy back in the late Seventies.
That seems to be the right book!
Ya know, I can handle that you might think it was threadshitting, but really I was just trying to use irony to point out how funny I thought it was that the OP would ask for help identifying something, and then give us so few specifics to go on.
But what you did was worse. You came in here and did a post-shitting. My sarcastic snark was most likely read, eyes rolled, and people moved on. But you had to come in here and try and make an issue out of it, didn’t you?
Your post is reported for mis-characterizing me and my posting history. I’m not exactly revered here as a font of knowledge or wisdom, but accusation like you made against me belong in the Pit, IMO, not in a Cafe Society thread about looking for a trivia book.
Oh, and Curtis, glad you found your book.
Tahssa and Snowborder Bo, both of please back off. And Snowborder Bo, in the future please just report the post and don’t junior moderate.

Of course. My apologies.
2201 Fascinating Facts was a book I read when I was much younger (late 80’s or early 90’s). The book I had was missing its dust jacket and the book itself was blue.
