Can you get sick from too many vitamins, even with proper hydration?

Sick or heart problems, circulatory problems, ect.

Also random experience from GNC vitamins a couple years ago, could anybody foresee a relation between too many vitamins and limbs falling asleep at night? (this happened to me, i am almost sure it was the vitamins)

I understand about water soluble and fat soluble. But if you take in 3000% dv of some B’s, how much frikkin’ water does it take to shuttle that out? Some GNC vitamins have this by the way, ridiculous huh?

I have always been careful to buy protein shakes that don’t have any vitamins in them, because i don’t want to get any more than 100% dv of any vitamins and because i take several servings a day. But i just bought designer whey the other day and have taken 3 servings a day, on top of lot’s a foods chalk-full of vitmains like fruits…and bingo, i am sick, which doesn’t happen very often. What gives?

I’m not a doctor or anything, but short answer = yes.

Iron Poisoning
Vitamin A overdose

Just off the top of my head. There’s probably a lot more than that. I wouldn’t know the LD50 values on anything, though.

Just remember the toxicologist’s adage: “Everything’s bad for you if you take enough of it.”

Also, how much is too much, on average for a 190 lb, 22 yr old guy who works out and gets 9 hours sleep a night and is in good health?

See http://www.cc.nih.gov/ccc/supplements/intro.html for starters.

Overdosing for prolonged times of the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, and K) can lead to problems. You don’t have to worry about the water soluble vitamins, and they are not dependent upon the amount of water you ingest. K is not a problem, as it is practically impossible to OD on that. It is primarily made by bacteria in your intestines and is not found in supplements. You should not take any A or D above the RDA for any long period.
