I did a search on the board here and went through the long Terms of Service on Yahoo but couldn’t find anything. I really like my Yahoo account now and don’t want to jeopardize its status by breaking a rule, but I could really use another one. Any ideas/experiences/anecdotes to share?
It’s ok to have more than one account. I have three: One for friends and family, one for work, and one for when I buy stuff online… Guess which one gets about 100 junk mails every day…
Great! That’s all I needed to know!
Caution: I have 2, neither of which I ever use any more. They fill up with junk even if you never use them to sign up for anything.
If you don’t log into your Yahoo account though for I think it’s 120 days they make it inactive. Used to delete it but now it’s recoverable. I let my oldest account lapse into inactivity because I was getting 100 Chinese/Taiwanese spams a day, reactivated it last week and within 15 minutes got the first Asian spam. Unreal.
If you get another account, be sure to go to "Options-Delivery Service-Yahoo Delivers and unsubscribe to everything–Yahoo! will automatically subscribe your email to several (dozens… ) lists otherwise.
Good point, pepperlandgirl. This also applies to accounts already active. Be sure to check your Marketing Preferences.
I deselected everything and still get tons of spam at my Yahoo address.
I’ve had mine for about three weeks and haven’t gotten a single unexpected E-mail. Is it only a matter of time?
Also, when I signed up, I remember one of the fields was “Alternate E-mail Address (Optional)” yet it had a little * next to it indicating it was required. And when I tried to leave it blank, it wouldn’t let me. How misleading.
