Can You Name Any Famous Lines Made By Women in Movies

Actually, my favorite line from Lion in WInter was said TO Eleanor by Geoffrey;
“I know. You know I know. I know you know I know. We’re a very knowledgable family.”

Auntie in Beyond Thunderdome: “One day cock of the walk. Next day a feather duster.”

in Forrest Gump.
School principal: Where’s your husband?
Sally Field: He’s on vacation.
(This is a great line only because of Field’s delivery. She know’s exactly why he’s asking and what she’s going to have to do to get Forrest into school and she hates it and she’s going to do it anyway. All in three words and the roll of her eyes.)

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:
Etta to SK: “Why can’t you ever be on time?”
Etta to BC and SK: “I won’t watch you die.”

And since someone was complaining about the OLDNESS of the quotes, the most recent movie I saw was O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?

Penny: He’s bonafide.
Penny: Lot’s of very respectable men have been run over by trains.

Glen Close in Fatal Attraction: I will not be ignored.

Robin Penn in The Princess Bride: You have always been so kind to me, and I won’t be seeing you again since I’m killing myself once we reach the honeymoon suite.

Cameron Diaz in There’s Something About Mary: Is that hair gel?

“Chefs do that.” and “Get away from her, you bitch!” are two of my favorite female movie soundbites ever.

It is quite unfortunate that TV treat women better than movies do. My favorite line by a woman is from TV: “You are the weakest link. Goodbye!”

songs dont count but this was pretty good

“Tomorrow tomorrow I love ya tomorrow you’re only a day away!” --Orphan Annie

“This is for making my date bleed, this is for my sister, and THIS is for me!” Larisa Oleynik, 10 Things I hate about you.

“Romeo Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” Juliet (Claire Danes) Romeo and Juliet

I think Phil has it – apparently Bill’s idea of a “great line” is a catch phrase. I have an example from a movie that Bill has probably seen – A Few Good Men, which nobody has ever called a chick flick. If we ask Bill the most memorable line from this movie, I’d bet he’d respond with the Jack Nicholson line: You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth. – a catch phrase. However, the best line in the movie belonged to Demi Moore. When she was asked why she “liked” the marines “so much,” she responded: Because they stand on a wall and they say "Nothing’s gonna hurt you tonight –- not on my watch."

OK, there were some Mae West lines mentioned earlier in the thread. I remember this one, but don’t know the movie title. As Mae takes off her coat, the coatcheck girl looks at her jewelry and exclaims “Goodness, what beautiful diamonds!” Replies Mae West “Honey, goodness had nuthin’ to do with it!” Can someone help ID the movie?

There are a handful of great lines from “A League of Their Own” but I can’t remember them all; only these two:

Dottie: Mitch Swaley likes you.
Kit: Mitch Swaley is one step up from dating a pig!
Dottie: But, an important step.

Mae Mordabito: What if at a key moment in the game my, my uniform bursts open and, uh, oops!, my bosoms come flying out? That, that might draw a crowd, right?
Doris Murphy: You think there are men in this country who ain’t seen your bosoms?

From “Billy Madison”…

Veronica Vaughn: No milk will ever be our milk.

Juanita: I thought I was your Snack Pack.

OLD LADY (my favorite!!!): If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis

OLD LADY: I’ll tell you who took those lunches: it was that damn sasquatch!

Well, if we are including television:

Sybil: I have more intelligent creatures than you lying on thier backs at the bottom of ponds. I have seen better organized creatures than you running around barnyards with their heads cut off.

Sybil: If you’re going to grope the guests, Basil, stay in the same room with them. It’s more polite.

Basil: Ah well. You have to have to have an interest or you just give up on life.
Sybil: And then you open a hotel.
-FAWLTY TOWERS

Livia: (to Claudius) They won’t me in because I’m a woman. They won’t let you in because you’re an idiot. And that’s odd because there’s no one in the senate but old women and idiots.

Livia: (to Claudius) You’re a fool, boy. They say it’s not your fault, but then, whose fault is it? That’s what I want to know.

Claudius: I just want the truth.
Livia: Just the truth, he says.

Antonia: (to Claudius) You’ll survive Tiberias. You’d survive the great flood; I know that now.

? Some female: They say that when you were young you were the most beautiful woman on earth.
Livia: Well, there was one other. In Egypt. But she didn’t last so long.

Livia: I want to be a goddess!

“But Flash, we only have 14 hours to save the earth!”

  • ?, Flash Gordon

“Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.”

  • Andy McDowell, Four Weddings and a Funeral. I hate Andie McDowell, i want to smack her upside the head and this line ruins the whole damn film. But it’s memorable.

“Yes sir”

  • Jodie Foster, Silence of the Lambs. It’s not what she says, it’s the way she says it.

“It is my belief that they done her in”

  • Audrey hepburn, My Fair Lady

“We love you Miss Hannigan”

  • all the girls, Annie

Fran

  1. “Kevin, sex isn’t love.” Ally Sheedy in “St Elmo’s Fire”

  2. “Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at ‘hello.’” Renee Zellweger in “Jerry McGuire”

  3. “Husbands should be like Kleenex…soft, strong, and disposable.” Madeline Kahn in “Clue”

Ok, this really disappoints me that no one has said this although we’ve gone through all kinds of Forrest Gump quotes.

“Run! Forrest! Run! Run Forrest, RUN!” Jenny, Forrest Gump
Ok and heres one from Tomorrow Never dies:

Bond: groans from slap What was that for (thick brit- accent)
Paris Carver: Do the words I’ll be right back mean anything to you?
Bond: Something came up.
Carver: Somethign always came up.

OK HERES ANOTHER FROM THAT MOVIE:

Paris Carver: So, tell me James, do you still sleep with a gun under your pillow?

“I know something of a woman in a man’s profession. Yes, by God, I do know about that.”

And of course, keeping with the whole Queen Elizabeth theme, from Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett):

“I am my father’s daughter. I am not afraid of anything”

Sorry for the hijack, but…
[hijack] DRINK! [/hijack]

Almost anything and everything Katharine Hepburn ever said was brilliant. From Bringing Up Baby:

“There is a leopard on your roof and it’s my leopard and I have to get it and to get it I have to sing.”

David Huxley (Cary Grant), after discovering the leopard in Susan(Hepburn)'s bathroom: “Susan, you have to get out of this apartment!”
Susan: “I can’t, I have a lease.”

From Philadelphia Story:
“I’m going crazy. I’m standing here solidly on my own two hands and going crazy.”

“Not anything - don’t say anything. And especially not ‘darling.’”

“The time to make up your mind about people is never.”

“Oh, we’re going to talk about me again, are we? Goody!”

::deliberately not looking at other folks’ replies first::
“Come up and see me sometimes!” - Mae West

“You do know how to whistle don’t you? You just put your lips together and blow” - Lauren Bacall

“I’ve got a mind for business and a bod for sin…is there a problem with that?” - Melanie Griffith

“Get away from her, you bitch!” - Sigourney Weaver

“Now listen here, Mr. Grand High Poobah of Upper Butt Crack, I’m just about half past give a shit with you” - Kathy Bates
OK, that’s all I can come up with off the top of my head.

::posting and peeking at other folks’ responses::

There’s a 442 Cutless in the back. Wanna strip down and shine the hood?
Anjoline Jolie - Gone in Sixty Seconds

“Now listen here, Mr. Grand High Poobah of Upper Butt Crack, I’m just about half past give a shit with you” - Kathy Bates

WHAT MOVIE IS THIS QUOTE FROM??

“mister grand pooh-bah of upper buttcrack” is from Dolores Claiborne.

Sure, these are obscure, but they’re good lines:

“A maid?! I didn’t spend six years in junior college to be a maid!” --Ally Sheedy in Maid to Order.

“Which one of you bitches is my mother?!” --Phoebe Cates in Lace (I think).

“You’ll shoot your eye out!” - A Christmas Story

“Whatever you do, don’t…fall…asleep!” - A Nightmare on Elm Street

“So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?” - Weird Science

Then of course (although it’s already been mentioned)
“And this one time at band camp…” - American Pie
That one has shown up on t-shirts, bumper stickers, and in at least one conversation a day since mid to late 1999.

Although I don’t know if you can consider them “famous” since I’m just coming up with some of the most memorable lines from some of my favorites.

“You’re not very bright, are you? I like that in a man.”–Sharon Stone/ Body Heat

“Dearest…what is your name?”–Katharine Hepburn/The African Queen

“No fate but what we make” - Linda Hamilton Terminator 2
