Can you put milk in a thermos and leave it out

If you put milk with ice cubes in a thermos how long could you leave it at room temperature before it spoiled?

That depends.

How big a thermos and how many ice cubes percentage wise by weight of contents
.
A larger thermos will take longer to heat up the contents (less area) and more cold mass to heat up.

If you have a specific thermos fill it with weighed amounts of milk and ice,get a stopper with a hole in it and insert a long stem thermometer in IT to see how long it takes for the ice to melt. Repeat the experiment with a different % of ice and time that. Suggest you start with 10% ice and work up to the maximum amout the thermos will hold, filling in the spaces with milk.

This will be and excellent and educational exercise for a bore student between terms or when goofing off.

You don’t need no stinkin’ ice cubes.

Just take refrigerator-chilled milk and pour it straight into the bottle. It will stay cold for several hours.

At least, it did when I was a kid. Of course, when I was a kid, if you dropped a Thermos bottle, you heard a really cool explosion when the inside bottle shattered.

You spoiled the fun! Wesley asked a stupid question and he got a long winded answer to keep him busy for a day or two!

PS I’ve dropped a glass job or two too. :smack:

The part where you made a double post just to add the  was classic. I can’t see how a guy with your personality has to spend time on a message board instead of socializing in real life. Kudos to your parents for a job well done

I was wondering if i could take milk camping with me for a day or two, and how long it would it remain unspoiled in a thermos. I don’t know much about how long a thermos will keep something at it’s desired temperature.

You might want to buy UHT milk instead. It’s sold by Parmalat and other companies in the juice box containers and will keep for weeks without any refrigeration.

Hell i didn’t even think about that. I can get powdered milk alot easier and cheaper than UHT milk though. Thanks.

Because I have 24 hours a day with only minor responsibilities. No school work. That is a thing of the distant past. Like my little TzuTzu not much to do but eat, sleep, “walk the dog,” and agravate S.A.s on the SDMB’s.

(FYI the first of the double post was accidental, the  was added “on the flly” and somehow ended up as a double post.)

Asked, answered, and closed.

Don’t forget kids, go to bed early. You need a good night’s rest.

Keep this back and forth crap out of GQ.
