Can you think of any other gay celebrity adoptive parents?

Uh,DMark…we’re talking gay here, not suspected child molesters.

They are two separate groups. Please keep it that way.

Darlene’s gay?!

Dammit!

She was my first crush ever. My heart went aflutter when I saw her on 24.

Dammit!

There is a prominent SF writer who adopted a child a decade back, whom I long thought was gay, but he writes so convincingly of the utter joy and fulfillment of both gay and straight love and sex, that I quit my pointless and irrelevant guessing.

I hesitate to post this, as I’m not sure if he is “out” in any orientation, but if the OP and other posters think so, I will mention his name.

If not, I apologize for any offense if any is taken, and add that offense was not my wish.

You mean David Gerrold, yes? I can’t remember if he’s ever officially come out but I think the assumption of his queerness is pretty uniform among those who pay attention.

Yes.

I’m not sure if most people would count Dan Savage as a celebrity, but he’s a well-known writer and sex-advice columnist who adopted a baby with his boyfriend. His book about it, The Kid: What Happened When My Boyfriend and I decided to Go Get Pregnant is wonderful.

So wonderful, it fully deserves to be mentioned twice in this thread.

I didn’t read it that way.

I read it as he doesn’t believe that Michael had SEX with Debbie (is that her name?) to get his biological children.

I’m with Annie-Xmas here. Jackson does not identify as a gay man. I don’t know or care if he had sexual intercourse with his wife. He is not a gay man. He is a suspected child molester.

There is a big difference between being gay, and being alleged child molester.

Have you ever read The Martian Child? He said in an interview included with the book (at least the version I read) that the story was fictionalized only about the boy being “from Mars,” which leads me to believe that the stuff about being gay was in fact autobiographical. If you haven’t read it, do. It was one of the best books I read last year

^^^Book? I read the story years ago in F&SF – did Gerrold expand it to novel length?

I generally enjoy his work, though he sometimes seems to get stuck forever in “first person,” the Star Wolf novels aside. I like first person, but enough is enough.

Sorry for the hijack.

Sir Rhosis

Duh, there’s a hyperlink to the Amazon listing for the novel I missed in elfkin477’s post. Sorry.

The only book of Gerrold’s I’ve ever read was the one on the process of getting “The Trouble with Tribbles” made. In that book he mentions in a footnote having a girlfriend (bizarrely I can remember the footnote almost to the exact text) but then this was the late 60s/early 70s and it would have been fairly suicidal career-wise for him to come out at that point. Or he could very well have not realized his sexuality until later, or he could simply have done a standard gender-switch, writing “girlfriend” when he maent “boyfriend.”

I recall that–her name was Holly Sherman, she was a fellow Theater Arts Student–he named Sherman’s Planet in the “Tribbles” ep after her. Girlfriend, in this case, probably just meant a friend who was a “girl.” Didn’t they “gnomish” or make some other silly noise in the background to simulate b. g. conversation?

Actually, as I mentioned, since Gerrold always seemed so comfortable with gay and straight sex in his novels, I always assumed he was bi.

Based on the recommendation, I just ordered a copy of his expanded “Martian Child” from Amazon.

Sir Rhosis

Yep, on his author blurbs it mentions his partner and his daughter. I say good on him for being so open.

Otto dear, please tell my you are being sarcastic! I’ve thought she was a FDA (future dyke of america) since the first season of Roseanne. At least I always dreamed she was. I had the hugest crush on her and oddly I was a lot like her in my youth. So much like her my Mom used to call me “Darlene”

::::swoooon::::

So happy to hear my accusations about her are true. Now if I can just get her to leave her partner for me, but then if I did that, Jodie Foster might get jealous.
CDA (current dyke of america)

Nope. I had no idea. My lesbidar must be out of order or something.

They should have come to my state. We’ll get 'em married up nice & legal.

Did Ellen Degeneres ever have any children with any of her former partners (Alexandra Hedison, etc)?

I stress former because, according to www.imdb.com, Ellen and Portia DeRossi are now an item.

Huh? IIRC, Ellen is still with Heddison are still a couple and Portia just “married” her partner.

I’ll try to look this up
