Jamil Jivani is declaring war on Doug Ford. Might he try for PP’s job?
Just started to write that Carleton seemed to be tightening and new results popped in pushing Fanjoy’s lead out to over 1500 votes again.
That’s the counter-foil. It shows who a ballot was given to (marked in the poll book), and then is torn off before the ballot is deposited. Each counter-foil is saved.
The number of counter-foils and the number of ballots MUST match at the vote count, or else something hinky has happened.
BC splitting the NDP and Liberal votes is letting the CPC pick up some seats.
And Jagmeet steps down.
Yes, I’m watching Singh’s speech now. He may have lost, but he’s being gracious about it. He’s congratulated Mr. Carney, and has lots of thanks to everybody who supported him. Definitely conceding gracefully.
Forgot to include : the poll clerk initials the counter-foil before giving it to the voter. When the voter comes back to the poll clerk, having marked the ballot, the poll cletk checks the counter-foil to make sure it’s got the clerk’s initial on it. That tells the poll clerk that there’s not been any ballot tampering by the voter, that the ballot is the one that the poll cletk gave out.
Then, the poll clerk tears off the counter-foil and saves it, and gives the ballot back to the voter, who deposits it in the ballot box. Since the counter-foil is torn off, the ballot is secret.
At the end of the day, the counter-foils are a check in the counting that the ballots were handed out by the poll clerks, and not someone else. The number of ballots cast and the number of counter-foils must match. The numbers on the counter-foils also must match the ballots that were assigned to that poll clerk.
With almost half the polls reporting, Fanjoy’s lead has increased again, and I’m off to bed.
Heads up! Poilievre is about to speak.
Thank you for that interesting bit of insight.
Incidentally, I just checked the CBC riding-by-riding projections, and the fuckwad who’s been a re-elected Conservative here forever is projected to once again win re-election. I don’t blame my gracious suburban neighbours. I blame the entrenched long-time villagers and farmers who are wondering whether it’s time to adopt new technology and buy this newfangled thing called a “radio”, which is alleged to be able to broadcast “news and information”.
At least I brought down PP’s numbers by 1 and gave Carney a tiny statistical boost in the popular vote.
Looks like PP will lose his seat…I’m quite content.
Not content that the Libs may not get a strong majority or even any.
The dumpf will play that up/
Singh announces resignation. Will PP have the same grace?
It doesn’t sound like it. At least, his speech doesn’t seem to be heading in that direction. In many ways, it sounds like he’s still campaigning.
I don’t know what will happen tomorrow or next week, as regards the Tories; but for now, it sounds like Poilievre is going to hang around for a while.
He can lose his seat and still be Con leader but he is not conceding
He was campaigning to remain leader.
CTV declaring Liberal minority
Glad to see Eliz May return to Parliament…needed voice.
Good speech from Carney
Wow advanced polls making big swings
Elections Canada isn’t immune to colossal fuck ups. Does this happen to other First Nations too or just the Inuit?
'I lost my legal right to vote…

I was very impressed by this quote from CBC News, quoting Mark Carney, who has a stellar reputation as an economist and central banker:
“Over my long career, I have made many mistakes and I will make more. But I commit to admitting them openly, to correcting them quickly and to always learn from them,” he said.
Imagine the Trumpster saying anything even remotely similar!
We truly live in two different nations that happen to have many cultural similarities.
You do know where Nunavit is??
And how big geographically and what time of year it is???
There are only 36k people, the land area is the largest territory.
2 million sq km.
Travel is not easy and knowing the issues the person could have pre-voted by mail a month ago.
The numbers are a bit wobbly but it seems to me that all parties have lost.
Liberals might have lost their majority
Conservatives have lost their government
Bloc has lost their lead in Quebec
NDP have lost their official status
Greens haven’t lost May. They are fine.
All seem to be hobbled. Good luck Liberals.
I mentally made the same mistake, but it pertains to the mostly Inuit continuities in Nunavik (northern Quebec).
