Just watched the press conference for the current protest in Winnipeg. It was eye opening. It’s a highly conservative province so walking a fine line, and they’ve been there a while already. The fella fielding questions was quite artful. And appears to have negotiated them to leave at 5pm, refusing to answer, ‘What if they don’t?’ Maintains they been respectful, the police are being respectful, nicest protest they’ve seen, (At the legislature complex.), and kept returning to the balance between action and respecting their rights to protest.
Surprisingly, he wasn’t head of Police services, on the board, or head of some division even. He is a constable. The rank appeared with his name at the podium or on the screen. Definitely the right man for the job, regardless.
It may be that the latter is an entirely Canadian phenomenon, but with the amount of attention the US has been paying us this month, I wouldn’t be surprised if at least a few showed up.
Most of the Canadian news articles describing the Ottawa protests as peaceful were quoting protestors. No doubt many were, but there were also allegedly over 4k complaints of hate.
Yeah, the propaganda arm of the convoy really earned their pay. Constant videos of them having fun, hugging, lounging in the hot tub and playing in the bouncy castle let them sell the narrative that this was just one big party.
They never videoed the people being harassed for wearing masks, the convoyers barging into restaurants and stores (and homeless shelters!) demanding to be served, the local people who moved in with friends and relatives in the suburbs to escape the constant noise, the drunk idiots setting off fireworks in residential neighborhoods at 3AM, the trucks being driven the wrong way down one-way streets, and all sorts of other crap.

Still, Fox’s defence of the invasion of Ukraine proves Trump would have been so much harder on aggressors than Biden….
It’s hard to know what to make of that, but a lot of trucks hauling semi-trailers seems to me like a lot of trucks hauling goods. Most of the rigs pictured in the Ottawa protests were just the tractors, no trailers.
The single biggest thing I’ve ever gotten wrong was my belief the Internet would significantly reduce lies, superstition, and nonsense. Hoo boy, that turned out to NOT be the case.
Okay, so… I can’t be the only person here who knows that one truck is, by definition, NOT A CONVOY, right? You don’t get to call yourself a convoy if there’s one of you. I’m not even sure two qualifies, but one definitely doesn’t.
