“Thank you for calling the CAA Help Line. Assistance is on the way! It will reach your destination of … Yarrgh! … in only … eight hours …. However, you still have phone reception and can kill time fishing for muskie. Watch out for black flies!”
In our family they were always called “snails”. I had no idea they were also called “nun’s farts” until this thread…
Remember, this is a list of things scarier than universal health care. Boo! This is my last post of this thread hijack.
I know people who eat dulse like potato chips and who put it on sandwiches. Yum? You can take normal rum and convert it to screech by adding molasses, paint thinner and sadness. Like all fine foods, such as Icelandic shark buried underground until rotten, it is almost strictly for tourists.
A log driver has two significant advantages over you. 1. You are not particularly light on your feet. 2. You rarely please people completely. But learn to dance, sure.
O.k. I’m trying to google dulce, and all I can find are references to dulce de leche. Is Canadian “dulce” something different?
Yes, it is a salty seaweed consumed as a snack in New Brunswick and other Maritime provinces.
Dulse (with an s)
Thanks!
And thanks to @Chingon , too!
The newspapers have said another freedom convoy is planned today going from Windsor and Sarnia north through Toronto. Do not know if this is true or if Ottawa is the destination. Now that the attention of the world is elsewhere do not know if anyone much cares.
Note that with the exception of Nickleback and Pepperettes, these items are all from eastern Canada. I had to google several of them.
And I don’t understand the reference to Lisa Lampanelli at all; she’s American?
Perhaps Lampanelli is American. I’m not sure. You probably have a point here.
It is very Canadian to criticize a hypothetical list for not being properly representative of the many provinces and territories. However, I lack the time and resources to canvass communities across the country for contributions to my silly list. Apologies to those concerned. What additions would you suggest? Purdys? Red River cereal? Pablum? Ketchup chips?
I recall black flies out west, but more mosquitoes and deer flies. What is scary about Western Canada? The things I liked least about BC were being forever tailgated by trucks and SUVs, gas prices and the grocery stores requiring a membership for kind of rational prices. Random items were sometimes $15. Or, if you were a store member, 3 for $5. Mountain biking is scarier than universal health care.
My sister has spent much time in Yellowknife and complained slightly about the cool temperatures and the price of food there, but I cannot speak for her.
Maybe I am Canadian for feeling bad that a hypothetical list could have been more representative?
A Globe column today suggests our national symbol should be potholes.
Putin lover’s convoy
I’d be really curious at this point to know what social media looks for +/- 10 days from the invasion of Ukraine in the broad aggregate. It’s almost a perfect natural experiment to see what impacts Russian influencers/bot-farms actually have on discourse in Canada and the US.
Now Ottawa’s looking at competing protesters…
Are we using this thread to discuss the trucker convoy to Washington too? I’m not seeing a separate thread for that.
Their protest strategy is driving laps around DC on the Beltway. This article says the plan is to add an additional lap each day. There is an obvious limit to this. Raw Story article with some details and then the usual collection of Twitter snark:
I think that article is majorly underestimating the cost of this thing. I assume that the 6 miles per gallon is for highway driving. Given the start/stop nature of traffic on the beltway the actual cost will be much higher.
And what do they plan to do when the Wilson Bridge opens?
These Me-Dom idiots don’t give two shits about anyone other than themselves. That’s their whole thing; selfishness above all. Me first and to hell with anyone else.
Also, I would not be surprised if many of them were not Putin supporters.
Didn’t show up this morning. They appear to have severely miscalculated just how long it would take to get to the beltway from Hagerstown in time for rush hour. They need to leave at around 300AM, or else they’ll just be sitting on 270 until like noon.
