Canadian Dopers: what on-line sites do you use for DVDs?

I’ve asked this before but in other fora and got bupkis. Are you Canadians hiding something from your south-of-the-border friends?

What site(s) give you the best nag for the buck, DVD wise?
Thanks

Sheesh - that’s best bang for the buck. So much for previewing…

Umm… are you asking about buying DVDs, like from amazon… (amazon.ca and indigo.ca are both pretty good, nice to be able to check prices from one against the other,) or renting DVDs online, ala netflix?? (In which case – zip.ca rules!!)

I’ll start by saying that I’ve only ever bought one DVD online, so I don’t have a heck of a lot of experience with it, but the one I did buy came from CD Plus. The DVD was about $10 cheaper there than either Amazon or Chapters, and shipping was free even though it was only a $17 purchase.

Stay away from Amazon or Indigo if you want good selection and prices.

My preference is CNL Internet Club. Great selection and prices, plus they don’t charge PST.

OP here: The reason I ask is that I used to order from hmv.ca when there was a Canadian DVD that I wanted (and it wasn’t available in the USA). A great example of this are the LEXX movies. HMV was great because they had a really reasonable international shipping policy ($5 extra-period). Unfortunately they passed their operation to amazon.ca. Though I like amazon they have shitty international shipping policies (amazon.co.uk, amazon.de are equally vile in that regard). They hit ou with an order charge and a per item charge as well.

For all I know amazon.com is probably equally shitty when shipping outside the USA.

Now I’m not so naive as to expect to get free international shipping, but I don’t what sometimes amounts to a 40% surcharge is outrageous.

We have something called deepdiscountdvd.com that is really great for domestic needs (25-30% list price) and FREE shipping. But that’s domestic DVDs only.

Without tipping my hat, there will be in the near future some DVDs that will be available in Canada only, and I’m trying to size up a reasonably priced method of acquiring them.

Thanks to all.

Maybe a Canadian doper could mail them to you.
