Oh I’m old enough to know that, but homosexuality was decriminalized in Canada in 1969.
Don’t know about Canada, specifically, but I assume that if they had reason to believe that someone was in danger, then they were good to go. From the minute they found someone tied up, that choice was vindicated.
It sounds like they may have had a warrant and the big decision was whether to break surveillance.
A bit of a weird twist from the usual, in that the police accused the defendant of planting the evidence.
