Canadian TV show - Corner Gas

I was looking for light comedy, and an Amazon search led me to Corner Gas, a series about a gas station in Saskatchewan. It has a huge fanbase in Canada, and though I haven’t found it as funny as the reviews suggest, there are always a fair number of chuckles per episode.

My only problem is that a few of the actresses are so lovely that I stop paying attention to the show. Instead, I think about moving to Saskatchewan.

Has anyone else watched Corner Gas or its lower-brow sibling, Letterkenny? I did a quick search, and I couldn’t find any other threads on the topic.

I watched a number of them, a cousin has a bit part.

Mildly funny and rather good, I must say.

Ive watched a lot of them on youtube and enjoy it but wish I could watch on a better platform for free as I got mixed up in the order of shows. I love the Radar looking sidekick but the dad cracks me up well all of them do. Good show for a clean show ya know? ( it’s no Letterkenny but will do).

Here is a collection of scripts, but unfortunately they cover only the first four seasons and are of spotty quality:

A part of the show is safe in Doper hands: https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=486317

For those who don’t know, there’s also a full-length feature film **AND **an animated series. Unfortunately, Janet Wright (“Emma Leroy”) is no longer with us, but her character is now voiced very well by Corrine Koslo.

In her memory, they’ve created the character of “Jane T. Wright,” one of Dog River’s founding pioneer women (there’s a statue of her in the town):

*The history book A Day in the Life of a Pioneer is written by “Jane T. Wright.” This is a reference to Janet Wright, the deceased actress who originated the role of Emma Leroy in the live action series Corner Gas. Furthering the homage, when Wanda reads the name “Jane T. Wright,” she asks “Why does that name sound familiar?” Wanda then suggests that Emma should play the pioneer, but Emma (voiced by Corrine Koslo because Janet Wright had passed away) says “Oh, I would never dream of stepping into her shoes.” *

Jackass.

To whom or what is that one word directed, silenus?

It is the catch[del]phrase[/del]word of the father on the show. In show humor.

I watched the entire run of the show. It is consistently entertaining though not super funny.

Hammerhead.

Emma!

Oscar!

Wullerton. (Spit)

Ciao, Wanda!

Still have it!

Mrs P used to say “Aren’t you ever going to wear it?”

Of course not! It’s history!

Why, that would be like someone in the NY Yankees’ front office wearing the Babe’s jersey around at work. ;).

Janet Wright is no longer with us, but we run into Fitzy’s grammy every now and then.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking Corner Gas is supposed to be a comedy. It’s actually a just a documentary about life in small-town Saskatchewan.

Sadly, Mike O’Brian, who played Wes Humboldt, has also died, from cancer, leaving his wife and small son. They did a feature about it on Corner Gas Animated:

Mike was an all-around good guy. I knew him a bit from when he was covering the local courts. He was a good writer, sympathetic to the people he wrote about. One of his best pieces was “Christmas Eve in Docket Court”, an article about the people who found themselves in the local docket court just before Christmas. Analytical, sympathetic, wry humour, it was all there.

RIP, Mike/Wes.
