Well, then, I shall attempt to partially answer the question. The earliest CA costume I recall was much like the Shadow’s … a business suit with a cape… Crimson, in this case. Though instead of the bandana over the face, CA had the more traditional “domino” mask. He wielded twin pistols … Colt .45 M1911s, if I recall correctly. I don’t know of the third weapon.
I do know he later had a horrible costume that looked ripped from the pages of the Ambiguously Gay duo, and upon the chest was a red-on-black sunburst that was supposed to represent a bullethole.
He and his sidekick Wing adventured with the Seven Soldiers of Victory.
His origin in current continuity has him seeing a mystical vision of the future - a vision of Superman’s brave death fighting Doomsday… which inspires him to his vigilante career - in an effort on DC’s part to semi-restore Superman’s place as the progenitor of all superheroes.
His current namesake has inherited his pistols, which fire mystical bullets from an unending supply. Don’t remember if they did that before.
IIRC and OTTOMH Wing was eventually killed by the Dummy. The Dummy’s men assumed their boss was a hidden ventriliquist who communicated with them through a special Dummy. In fact, the Dummy was a dwarf with a condition that made him look like a ventriliquist’s dummy.
I yearn for a Scarface/Dummy team up. I realise that I may be the only one.
Once upon a time, I read an issue of GL that centered around this whole “Man Without Fear” idea. Seems the previous GL for the sector, as he was dying due to an accident at Earth, ordered his ring to seek out a man without fear to be his successor. The ring, unable to find a human without fear, found the closest it could – test pilot Hal Jordan – and then removed his remaining ability to feel fear. Made for some interesting reading as GL discovered this fact and ordered the ring to stop it.
Indeed, and the Brave and the Bold miniseries starring Hal and Flash II (Barry Allen) explored the idea a bit more in one issue… seems there was a menace that acted on the minds of those approaching it… exaggerating their mental characteristics… GLs, being without fear, would get insane levels of bravado, and be led to their doom. So the Guardians recruit Barry Allen to help deal with the menace…
Inspired by Bosda’s Crimson Avenger Q, I’ve got a new batch … seven questions, all centering around the Seven Soldiers of Victory.
1.) What was the alternative name of the group?
2.) Which Soldier shared his name with a much-later DC crimefighter, who had no other connection to that Soldier? (Ruling out Star-Spangled Kid, Crimson Avenger…)
3.) The Crisis wiped out some of the Soldier’s membership … which Justice Leaguer’s counterpart used to be one of the Seven Soldiers?
4.) Sir Justin, the Shining Knight had a flying horse … what was it’s name?
5.) The Star-Spangled Kid was a member of the Soldiers, the JSA, and Infinity Inc. What was his real name?
6.) What was his new superhero ID toward the end of his career?

Incorrect. This cite has the history of Post-Crisis Seven Soldiers, but notes some of the original pre-Crisis version, including Earth-Two’s Green Arrow and Speedy. I have issues of All-Star Squadron that refer to them by name as well.
Meh. Hm. Wasn’t one of the soldiers assigned to the tank his descendant? That seems right. I have to admit, my exposure to most of DC’s war comics came from Crisis on Infinite Earths.
As you said, Green Arrow…who has since been replaced retroactively by the Spider.
