Starting yesterday evening, I haven’t been able to connect to google/a few other websites (like www.safeway.com) in Internet Explorer. I just get an “Internet Explorer can not connect to this webpage” error. I don’t think I installed or changed anything to caused it to stop working, and I still can connect to google and safeway using the google chrome browser. I’m running Windows Vista, if that helps.
I’ve tried rebooting my computer and modem, but to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have any idea what to do?
Is this a computer at work?
No, it’s my home computer. I’m able to get on google using firefox as well. However, when I’m on google on firefox and I search for certain websites, like the webcomic site “Giant in the Playground”, it gives me a link like this [link broken for obvious reasons]:
h ttp://wwwseeking.net/info.php?u=9&b=673232212&q=giant%20in%20the%20playground&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.giantitp.com%2F&s=google
rather than the correct address of www.giantitp.com
This makes me think it may be some sort of browser hijacker. I’m currently running an adaware scan and then will run a AVG virus scan.
Just for everyone’s information, it was a trojan and I removed it.
Sorry I couldn’t get back to this sooner. Sounds like you resolved it… good to know, when it’s my turn to be up against something like that.
It’s ok. I appreciate that you tried to figure it out.
