cAP lock key, I fUCKNIG hate you.

The caps lock key is annoying. The numlock key on the other hand is infuriating. It actively breaks a critical piece of functionality. (My hatred of numlock only increased with my current laptop, which includes a full number pad, but the bios defaults to numlock off and the cheap bastards who made the thing didn’t include a numlock led)

The number lock key is what I came in here to bitch about. It’s right next to the “/” key on my work keyboard and I have to enter every single date I type with slashes. If I had a dollar for every time I hit the damn number lock key… I’m about ready to take a screwdriver to it. Mercifully I don’t seem to have a number lock key on my home keyboard.

Del Capslock

i ENDORSE THIS PITTING!

To make things worse, my crappy keyboard doesn’t even have an indicator light to let you know it’s on!

Doesn’t your caps lock key light up? When I press mine, it lights up with a blinding white light that’s impossible to miss. It doesn’t prevent you from pressing it by accident, but you definitely wouldn’t type whole lines of text without realizing it.

Er, that post got cut off. It was supposed to be exciting caps lock trivia. The regular character Del Capslock, in John Sandford’s Lucas Davenport (Prey) series, got his name from the writer staring at his keyboard. I read about a dozen of those before it dawned on me.

Yeah, I’m a little mystified by all the caps lock hate. It’s not a key I ever really hit accidentally anymore than I “tab” accidentally. Maybe my fingers just have better aim. But if you do hit it accidentally, there’s a big frickin’ light on it (and on some keyboards a completely different “touch” to it than the other keys.)

One Windows enchancement I always turn on when possible is the beep when toggle keys are pressed. It makes life so much easier.

My nemesis is the F12 which is just above my backspace key. It brings up a window at the bottom of my open window, interrupting what I’m trying to correct. I hates it!!! But I’d rather cuss about it than do something useful. Because that’s how I roll…

In AutoCAD, F1 is the help window. I use Esc all the time in that program and got so tired of opening the Help window on accident that I took the key off and put it in my drawer. F4 does something annoying too, but since I use the F3 key for stuff, too, it has joined it’s sibling in the drawer. Caps Lock is almost never a problem for me.

Well, just get a Lenovo X1 carbon, and replace your caps lock problem with both a Home and an End problem. You’d come across as the sort of insane that spouts gibberish instead of the type that just randomly shouts at folks.

Would that work?
