Captain America - Steroid User

:smack: :frowning:

I was watching the trailer for Captain America and I had this epiphany. If you’ve already had it, SHUT UP :stuck_out_tongue:

It never occurred to me this icon of America could be, viewed from a certain POV, as advocating steroid use.

Dude. The comic’s writers had that epiphany years ago. Steve Rogers even got himself de-Supersoldier formula’d to show that Drugs Are Bad.

The epiphany I got from watching the trailer is that they CGI’d Chris Evans into a living bobblehead for his pre-steroid scenes. Icky.

HEY!!! I’ve been reading X-Men for the past forty years.

In my defense, I never liked the Captain America comics so I didn’t really have much thought about it. I KNEW his origin but never THOUGHT about it. The visuals just made it click. Plus I’m not very observant :frowning:

It goes deeper than we ever thought!

“The secret compartment of my ring, I fill / with an Underdog super-energy pill!”

Ha! I took Underdog chewable vitamins for years! The never gave me an extra special boost though. :frowning:

… and Popeye has been taking his drugs and beating people up for decades now.

Hourman’s Miraclo.

Miracle-Gro.

The two are not the same, and superpowers, even for a moment, are not what result from ingesting the second substance.

Uh, my friend told me when I, *we *were kids.

You may be closer to the truth than you suspect. Back in the Twenties, spinach was also slang for marijuana. As there were already weird stories about what people could do under the influence of marijuana (become berserk, show madman levels of force…), Popeye’s super strength may have nothing to do with the iron supposedly contained in spinach (btw, did Popeye coined that or was it around long before?).

So when are we going to get a crack/meth/smack-themed super? And what would his powers be?

cough, cough

And Madman
had some pretty psychedelic experiences with drugs.

Not quite what I had in mind.

If you remember in the 60s the tested it and found out it was a sugar pill. Nothing more than a placebo. Effective but harmless
