Captain Sheridan's best moments

Sheridan’s speech

From Severed Dreams

“May I have your attention please. In the last few hours we have learned that Warships are coming this way from Earth. Their orders are to seize command of Babylon 5 by force. As Commanding Officer and Military Governor of Babylon 5, I cannot allow this to happen. President Clark has violated the Earth Alliance constitution, by dissolving the Senate, declaring Martial Law, and personally ordering the bombing of civilian targets on the Mars colony. He is personally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. Following these attacks, Orion 7 and Proxima 3, have broken away from the Earth Alliance and declared independence. Babylon 5 now joins with them. As of this time… Babylon 5 is seceding from the Earth Alliance. We will remain an independent state, until President Clark is removed from office. At the end of this current crisis, anyone who wishes to leave for Earth, is free to do so. Meanwhile, for your own safety, I urge everyone to stay in your quarters until this is over. That is all.”

“Can I come back?” Sheridan asks. “No,” replies Lorien. “This journey is ended. Another begins. Time to rest now.” Sheridan smiles, and light engulfes the inside of the ship. “Well, look at that,” Sheridan says, looking into the light. “The sun’s coming up.”

The light fades out, leaving the ship dark.

…sniff, sniff… :frowning:

Sheridan to Kosh “Up yours!”

Perhaps not his best moment but you’ve got to have a brass set to say that to a Vorlon.

Marc

Strategy-wise, I always liked the “lure the Shadow vessel into Jupiter’s gravity well” trick.

Courage-wise, the speech he gives to the Drazi about saying “No” in Intersections in Real Time.

Starkiller! Destroying the Black Star is still probably considered more impressive than that whole dying-and-coming-back-to-life thing he did at Z’Ha’Dum.

That said, I agree with the workers at the start of season 5: “Intersections of Light and Dark” where he personally beat the snot out of the bad guy who tried to upset his station and murder Delenn. It’s right up there with when he beat the snot out of the guy who threatened to blow up all of Bablyon 5. Probably not as tactful as how his predecessor handled things (“By Any Means Necessary”), but a damn good show.

That would be going to Z’Ha’Dum, despite knowing he would die. The best moment was when he jumped from that balcony moments before the original White Star broke orbit and detonated right over the City.

When is someone going to start up a “Captain and Tenille’s best moments” thread?

Chipmonk Love!

Sigh, so many knock-off threads lately. . . .

Sheridan’s command “Ramming speed!”, when he ordered his ship to collide with an orbiting missile launcher that was poised to fry a good section of North America. Like the leap off of the balcony, he knew he would die, and THIS time would take a lot of others with him. Of course they were prevented from having to make this sacrifice at the last split second, but he didn’t know that would happen.

So many good ones already taken–I particularly like Baker’s “Ramming speed!” submission–but my favorite Sheridan moments are his interactions with Kosh. The following is one of my favorites:

“Don’t you turn your back on me. Don’t you even try to walk away from me! Just who the hell do you think you are?”

As MGibson said, it takes cojones to say things like that to a Vorlon.

Now, when are we going to have an “Ivanova’s Best Moments” thread? Or Delenn? Or Marcus? I’ve always thought they got the best lines in the show.

Ivanova:

“No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There’s always a boom tomorrow. What? Look, somebody’s got to have some damn perspective around here. Boom, sooner or later. BOOM!”

Londo:
“Ahh, arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. How efficient of you.”

Ivanova

And if he shows up, I want that son of a bitch shot on sight. …

Ivanova:

“Mr. Gray, I’m grateful the Psi Corps give you purpose in life, but when that purpose includes scanning my mind to prove my loyalty, it’s not only an invasion of my privacy, but my honor. As for fear, if you enter my mind for any reason I will twist your head off and use it for a chamber pot. If you’ll excuse me?”

“Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova’s recommendations. Ivanova is God. And if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out. Babylon Control out. <sigh> Civilians. <looks up> Just kidding about that God part.”

“I know, I know. It’s a Russian thing. When we’re about to do something stupid, we like to catalog the full extent of our stupidity for future reference.”

“Good luck, Captain. I think you are about to go where everyone has gone before.”

Delenn:

“Only one human captain has ever survived battle with the Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else.”

Marcus:

“You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn’t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.”

And, as a nod to the original topic:

Bester: “I want you to know that I object to this, Captain. Ms. Alexander has no business being here. She’s a blip. By all right I should arrest her and take back with me.”

Sheridan: “You could do that. And I could nail your head to the table, set fire to it, and feed your charred remains to the Pak’ma’ra. But it’s an imperfect world and we never get exactly what we want. So get used to it.”

Ivanova: “Who am I? I am Susan Ivanova, commander, daughter of Andrei and Sophie Ivanov. I am the right hand of vengeance, and the boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to Earth, sweetheart! I am death incarnate, and the last living thing that you will ever see! God sent me!!!”

Delenn: “This is ambassdor Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is now under our protection. Withdraw or be destroyed.”
Earth Alliance Captian: " We have juristiction here don’t force us to engage your ships."
Delenn: “Why not? Only one human captian has ever defeated the Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front. If you value your lives, be some where else.”

Sheridan: “Mr. Bester?”
Bester: “Captain Sheridan?”
Sheridan: (looking very annoyed) “Get the hell outta my chair!”

Not sure of the spelling of this name but I’ll call her Da’gher, one of Londo’s wives. Vir is supposed to escort her to her quarters, and she’s been bitchy

D: Oh don’t look so worried Vir, I don’t bite!

V: With all due respect madame, that’s not what I’ve heard

D:(peevishly) Well there was just that one time!

Hey, where’d that sad face come from? @#$%^&* Preview is my friend.

Marcus: “I love you” as he gives his life for Ivanovas.

Sheridan’s chewing out Kosh for being so vague. I love it when he doesn’t back down and pushes him until he gets answers.

All of Season 3.

Bester: “Humanity should have been my business. Marley to Scrooge. . . Dickens? . . . A Christmas Carol? . . . Well, it’s good to see that are continuing the fine tradition of hiring for the shallow end of the gene pool.”

If only because I am a huge fan of The Tick and find myself inserting an exasperated “Read a book!” to that line.

Here are some of mine then:

John Sheridan: Are you trying to cheer me up?
Susan Ivanova: No sir, wouldn’t dream of it.
John Sheridan: Good, I hate being cheered up.
Susan Ivanova: In that case we’re all going to die slow, agonizing deaths.
John Sheridan: Thank you, I feel so much better now.
Mr. Morden: What do YOU want?
Vir Cotto: I’d like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this.
[waves]
Vir Cotto: Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?
Sinclair: Problem with the transfer tube?
Talia: No, not really. It seems like every time I get into the tube, Mr. Garibaldi is there. It’s like he knows.
Sinclair: Talia, Mr. Garibaldi is many things, but he’s not omniscient.
[Garibaldi appears]
Talia: I think I’ll take the stairs.
Sinclair: I think I’ll join you.

elf6c, you should have added that they were waiting for the car outside the tube… and as the door opened, Garibaldi was there <grin>. He didn’t just randomly walk up.

While Sheridan wasn’t technically a captain at that point, I like his actions from “In the Beginning.” He was the only Earth officer to get a victory against the Minbari during the war, and survive. (Daniel already mentioned that one).

One of my favorite moments was in “All my Dreams, Torn Assunder.” Sheridan and Delenn are getting ready for the day, and Sheridan is just sitting on the bed, one boot on, the other one dropping from his hand. He’s drained of energy. We hear the sound of a gavel dropping. As Sheridan sits there, we here his voice (as a voiceover) saying “There comes a moment in all of our lives when we have to do something that we’d rather not do. When we know something we’d rather not know. This is one such moment.” Sheridan straightens, puts on his boot, and goes out the door, and to a council session that will doom the Centauri homeworld, the homeworld of one he had considered a friend, to destruction. It’s one of the finest and most emotional moments in the series.

One of my favorite exchanges in the series comes from the episode “Comes the Inquisitor.” At the end of the episode, there’s an exchange between Sheridan and Sebastian, aka Jack. While it is clearly Sebastian’s (Wayne Alaxander) performance that makes it great, the exchange is wonderful.

For more “Captain-like” moments, the last assault on Earth in “Endgame” is an example. His broadcast to Earth, and his final order to ram (already noted in this thread) are defining moments for Sheridan.

There are numerous moments with Alfred Bester (from whom I take my username Psi Cop) that are eminently quotable. For example, here’s one:

Garibaldi has just made some snide remark to Bester about him (Bester) being a pinyata (sp?). “So you think of me as something bright and cheerful, full of toys and candy for young children? Thank you, Mr. Garibaldi. I feel so much better about out relationship now.”

I’ll have more later as I think of them… heck, I could do ten pages of this thread on my own.
