Car steering wheel is leaching color.

My car is a 5 year old Saturn, with a black leather covered steering wheel.
The last 2 weeks have been in the 90s, high humidity, and I’ve been, for the first time, parking in direct sunshine very day at work.

What ever was used to make the leather on the steering wheel black has been staining everything that touches it black. It’s rather like black shoe polish. Has anyone has to deal with this and are there any ideas on how to keep all of my cloths from turning black?

  1. Some leather cleaner.
  2. Put one of those wheel wraps around it for now.

Get a window shade to put in your window, or just put it over the wheel. Still, the temperature in your car may be high enough to be causing the problem.

If you want to recover your wheel these things work well and look really nice: http://wheelskins.com/

It takes probably an hour of lacing to do a good job lacing it up, but it’s worth it. Looks stock and covers up my 8 year old flaky steering wheel nicely.
