I had to go to my mothers worker (she is at a nursing home) and give her some papers.
My fahter had to supply these:
elec. bill, gas bill, medical, etc. and car title.
There was an envelope for this purpose.
He mailed his car title.
He didn’t make a copy, he sent the title.
My question is, what happens if he is ever stopped or anything?
And he doesn’t have his car title?
He should not need the title in his car. That should be kept in a safe deposit box or something. The registration should be in the car, are you thinking of that?
It’s usually quick and easy (but not free) to get a duplicate title. I think it’s $15 here in Georgia (I did it last year). Just prove who you are and provide an accurate VIN. I did it online (downloaded the form there). No problem.
If you’re concerned about the title being lost in transit or stolen, you can replace it asap.
I would never keep the title to a car IN the car. If he’s pulled over, he shows his license and registration and maybe insurance info (not necessary in GA since it’s all in the database now). Title is only for transferring ownership or collateral these days.
