From a press release on the website, it’s “a non-profit that offers free protected websites for those facing a health event to easily communicate with loved ones and to receive support and encouragement.” So not just for those with terminal illnesses.

Yeah, not necessarily terminal, just serious.
One of my wife’s cousins used the site to communicate the status of her boy, who was direly ill with some kind of heart problems as a toddler, about 4 years ago. Luckily he pulled through and is doing great now!
