Carnival Tarts

In another thread I used the term ‘carnival tart’. It occurred to me that this might not be a widely known term. Here’s the situation:

A former coworker is from San Pedro. (Though she’s Hispanic, woe betide anyone who pronouces it ‘San PAY-dro’ within her earshot! She’s definitely a California Girl.) She and I and another coworker were having lunch in (Mexican chain restaurant) Acapulco. A woman walked in with her family. The woman was dressed in tight fitting stretchy pants, red with white pokladots and white lace at the ends of the legs. She wore a frilly white off-the-shoulders blouse and white high heel sandals. She had Big Hair. Quite the fashion statement, and she looked as if she meant it. (i.e., she wore her outfit as if it were the height of coolness.) Coworker took one look at her and said to us, ‘Carnival tart.’

What is your local term for a woman who dresses like this?

Aunt Faye??

Just kidding! I have to ask you, if it’s not San PAY-dro, how are you s’posed to say it?

“Mom.”

“The Future ex-Sheckstress.”

Hoochie
pronounced Hooo-cheee Ma Ma!

San Pee-dro.
It’s an LA thing.

Exactly.

When I bought some black patent leather mary jane shoes with a 3 inch stacked heel, my friends and I immediately referred to them as Hoochie Shoes, fr’instance. obligatory shoe link

I have heard some women talk of going out in her fuckme shoes.

That’s what we call them round these parts. Spanish accent optional.

They say that…then they take them off when the fucking starts. Where’s the fun in that?

A story from a long time ago.
I was standing in the service office of the dealership where I worked. A customer, a rather large lady, came in wearing a pleated muumuu. Said muumuu was a combination of the brightest blue, yellow, orange, and reds I think I have ever seen. These colors were so bright I almost thought the damn thing ran off batteries.
Anyway when she left, one of my co-workers said “Do get the feeling that somewhere there is a circus missing its tent?”

Just for a second, I wondered why this thread wasn’t in Cafe Society. Carry on.
