Can’t tell if it’s any more realistic than the prior ones. Some scenes in Cars were more realistically detailed than others.

Interesting. However, my main thought was “they’re living machines, where is that heartbeat sound coming from?”
I’m not convinced that this is anything more than a teaser to drum up conversation (and it’s working!). Too much money in toys and tie-ins to mess with the formula in any meaningful way. If Pixar wanted to be “dark”, they’d do it with a new franchise, not one that sells cup and plate sets to toddlers.
McQueen crashes then either overcomes or teaches some young car to overcome or whatever. Stuff works out in the end.
