You should respect the simple people who live in remote villages. Of course it doesn’t hurt if they are actually cool city people like yourself.
Doc Hudson was a famous race car too, Sally was actually a city car, she had just lived in the village for a while, and Guide is the best Pit Stop car in the world.

I think you’re overlooking Lightning’s friendship with Mater, who can’t really be characterized as ‘cool city people’ by any stretch of the imagination. The hicks from Deliverance would have found Mater insufferably provincial. The mutants from The Hills Have Eyes would have considered Mater a yokel.
