One of the big things with Scott Peterson is the witnesses against him were far more damning. Amber Frey testified that Scott Peterson told her fifteen days before Laci’s disappearance that he was getting ready to spend his first Christmas without his wife. The defense obviously made the argument “this is just an adulterer saying something to his mistress so she doesn’t find out he’s married, or whatever”, but the jury didn’t buy that.
If two things would’ve been different in the Scott Peterson case:
a) Peterson doesn’t run around on Laci while she’s alive, and
b) he gets the O.J. or Casey Anthony jurors
He’d have walked out of his trial with ease.
I’m sad that there will be no justice for Caylee Anthony. However, the dark side of my soul wonders, with a certain amount of glee, if Nancy Grace’s eyeballs have popped right out of their sockets.
I don’t really know what to make of that either. Even a crazy murderer who at least is within the realm of sanity (I’ve seen true psychotics who do not have a hold on reality, Casey may have antisocial personality disorder but she’s not disconnected from reality) would know better than to think you could just pretend your kid didn’t exist anymore and not get called on it.
I don’t really believe the defense’s narrative on what really happened, either.
If George was the mastermind perfect criminal trying to avoid trouble over letting his grand daughter play in a dangerous swimming pool unsupervised and he hid the body with Casey’s knowledge, you would expect this intelligent super criminal would have his daughter report her child missing. Because that makes a lot more sense than not reporting her missing for a month.
If Casey murdered Caylee, why would she drive around for 31+ days with Caylee’s body in the trunk of the car? I understand there are insanely stupid murderers, but that’s not just insanely stupid that is unbelievably stupid. Obviously Casey, if she was the murderer, cared about not getting caught and going to prison–otherwise she wouldn’t have lied to the police to try and make the problem go away.
To be honest really no narrative of the event makes much sense to me. A criminal case isn’t about comparing lots of strange narratives, none of which make much sense, and deciding which one is the most credible. It’s about demonstrating beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crimes the prosecution is charging them with, and that just didn’t happen here.
I don’t actually think the arguments about the O.J. and Casey Anthony jurors is fair.
Mark Furman lied so people wouldn’t know he was a racist, and then when caught the jury is going to think he’s a racist and a liar. It doesn’t make the O.J. jury irrational that they instantly would question the entirety of the case against O.J. after that. What sort of frame job could a racist liar set up against O.J.? I think O.J. is guilty as sin of those murders but I also don’t think the O.J. jury dropped the ball necessarily, an investigator on the case with problems like Mark Furman are textbook reasons to acquit.
With the Anthony prosecution I feel for the prosecutors, they had scant evidence to run a case on.
With Scott Peterson they had a cooperating Amber Frey helping collect evidence and even wearing a wire. It wasn’t even so much that Peterson was cheating on Laci before she disappeared, he was communicating with his mistress through text messages while at a candle light vigil for his missing wife.
If you want to get convicted of murder he was doing all the right things.
By waiting a month to report the child missing - and sticking to her made-up story of a kidnapping by a non-existent nanny for months, if not years - she stalled the investigation long enough to get away with murder.
Yea, I think thats actually the big difference with the Peterson case. Scott Peterson acted like a guy that was trying to cover up the murder of his wife. Anthony just acted like a nut-ball. Its hard for the prosecution to weave a narrative when the defendants actions are hard to fit to any semi-rational motivation.
Mainly, I’m just glad I wasn’t on the jury. Its a tough call.
First off, the hair in the car trunk had a “death band” on it - a marking that only appears in postmortem hair. Secondly, nobody alleged that Cayley was in the trunk for 31+ days, the body was only alleged to have been in there several days.
Christmas at the Anthony house is going to be interesting this year.
That does not make any sense.
It is the** prosecutors** decision! Dont feel sorry for a stupid prosecutor who decided to prosecute with no evidence.
It is the prosecutor who decides to prosecute and to charge someone with a crime. It is the prosecutor who decides that he has enough evidence to charge someone with murder and put her in jail for 3 years, take 3 years of her life away from her while she sits in a jail cell awaiting trial and to cause her to incurr $100,000.00’s of thousands of dollars of debt in attorney fees to defend herself.
If one day you get charged with murder and spend 3 years in jail awaiting trial while losing your job, losing your house, going into debt, then maybe you will understand this better. A person who gets prosecuted suffers terribly both from jail time, loss of job, financially, being hated by the media and by everyone in the country, whether he is guilty or innocent.
Cindy will divorce George. I am not sure George will even make it to Christmas.
The thing that still gets me is the 30 days that Caylee wasn’t reported missing. 30 FUCKING DAYS?? Clearly Casey knew Caylee was dead, no? Then she leads the detectives on a wild goose chase for months pretending she had a nanny and that she was the kidnapper.
Since she’s found guilty of lying to the police, which hindered prosecution, why was she found not guilty on the child abuse/neglect charges? Wouldn’t the obstruction of justice be enough to convict her on child abuse?
YOu can smell a car trunk 3 years later, but you and your dog can not smell a rotting decomposing dead body while walking past at the side of the road for 6 months just 19 feet away? I would get rid of that dog.
As we say at my place in more ways than one: "That dog don’t hun’t "
Well she is most likely going to be sentenced to jail for 4 years for the lying to police, so she still has another couple years to go. And her reputation is ruined? Boo fucking hoo, that’s what happens when your child “accidentally” dies and you lie to police about it for over a month.
That is an interesting statement.
The area was flooded by a hurricane, the body was underwater while it was decomposing. By the time the remains were found it was skeletal, as in no longer decomposing flesh, so it probably didn’t smell that bad.
And having a freshly dead body in your trunk in the middle of summer in FL for a few days is going to make it pretty stinky.
I was not talking about just Casey, I was talking about anyone, maybe “you”, guilty or innocent, who is charged and prosecuted and have to lose their homes, lose their jobs, lose all your friends, become hated by the world, and go into immense debt while sitting in a jail cell for 3 years awaiting trial. I think it is especially hard when such a person is innocent.
You know, you have made a lot of really weird statements throughout this thread. It’s almost like you have a creepy identification with Casey Anthony and seem to have created this entire fiction in your head that you’re narrating for us all here, complete with your own sets of evidence and allegations that if you had been in the area, you and your dog would have found the body in a week. I don’t know exactly what is wrong, but pretty much every contribution you have made to this thread has really creeped me out, and I am hoping I’m not the only one to get the “psycho celebrity murderer stalker” vibe from it.
It was underwater for 6 months? Are you sure about that? That is not true. What weighted down the body to be underwater? Nobody said that that area had water for 6 months.
Besides, those woods are tiny, smaller than a football field, if I had been down there with my dog searching I would have found the body the first day.
Also, there were searchers that, including investigators hired by the Anthony’s. The Anthonys told the searchers that the body was there and to search there. Any searcher with a dog, any bow hunter, would have found that body - esp after being tipped off that the body WAS there. Anyone/any bow hunter who can find a dead deer with an arrow in it can find that body. It is not remarkable, thousands of bowhunters do so every day, it is a routine part of bowhunting. One does a back and forth, or, a spiral pattern search, and by doing so can cover every square foot of that small wooded area in less than a day.
I thought the same thing. Very creepy.
