Casey's gone

11 years ago, my mother was newly remarried after my father’s death. They’d been married mearly 50 years, and she remarried a friend he’d had since high school, who’d also lost his spouse to cancer. Shortly after their marriage, Mother got Jim a wire fox terrier puppy for his birthday. From the beginning, Casey was her dog. He was so spoiled, but very sweet. He rarely left her side, except to go out and rid the yard of his arch-nemesis, Squirrel. Mother had open heart surgery, and Casey lay beside, being careful not to hurt her. She had a massive stroke and the doctors said to put her in a nursing home, but she came home, worked very, very hard and recovered more than anyone thought possible. Casey was right beside her. Three years ago she had another stroke, and we lost her. Casey didn’t pick up a toy for almost a year. She used to eat those horrible orange chemical styrofoam peanuts, and she’d always give Casey 1/2. After her death, he never touched another one (who can blame him?). At the beginning of the year, he started having trouble controlling his back legs. The vet said it was disc disease, and didn’t recommend surgery. We tried other vets, but the answer was the same. Yesterday he could no longer stand, and the appointment was made.

Good night, Casey. You made one old lady’s life so much better.

I’m so sorry. He sounded like a wonderful fellow.

I really hope that somehow the two are together again. It just doesn’t seem possible that the spirit of a good animal shouldn’t be reunited with the human that loved it.

I’m sorry Casey is gone, but I hope he’s eating those awful peanuts with your mother.

I am so very sorry. I don’t care what anyone says, animals are family. Casey was loved and gave love, and I believe in my heart that kind of love will be reunited.

(((hugs)))

JIm is picking up Casey’s ashed today and scattering them over my parents’ graves.

So sorry to hear of Casey’s passing. My condolences.

What a sweetheart. Good night, Casey. You were a Very Good Dog. :: gentle virtual petting ::

Sorry to hear of your pet’s passing. Sounds like Casey was very naturally theraputic.

"Casey", what a great name for such a wonderful pet. Rest in peace, little one. Your work here is done and you did it well. Now it’s time to meet “Mom” again. She’ll be waiting on the other end of the “Rainbow Bridge”.

Our sincere condolences, St. Germain.

I’m so very sorry. It truly doesn’t matter how old you get or how many pets you’ve had. It never gets easier.

Good Casey. Good StGermain.

Poor widdle wuggles :frowning:

Reminds me of the Jurassic Bark episode of Futurama, that I always have to skip because it makes me cry. I love that he ate those little circus peanuts, though. They’re truly awful!

Thanks, everyone.

Rachelellogram - I’ve heard about the Jurassic Bark episode, but know I could never watch it. Once when my dad was a kid, he told his dog to sit adn stay when he went into a store. It wasn’t until night came that he realized the dog wasn’t with him. He went back, and their was Chubby still waiting - my father forgot him and had left by a different door. And I always told Mother that Casey only ate those wretched Circus Peanuts out of love for her.

So sorry-Casey sounds like he was a wonderful pup. Cherish your memories with him.

Casey sounds a lot like my mom’s Brownie (aka her other kid). Dogs (cats and other pets too) like that live on in the hearts of those who love them and were loved by them.

Goodnight, Casey…

I believe they are together now.

Wag on Casey. :frowning:

:frowning: Our dogs are most definitely members of our family. Good night, Casey. :frowning:

I now have a lovely image of heavenly peanut sharing.
Good boy, Casey. Good boy.
