I like this silly game show that takes place in a taxi.
In Googling a bit, I was surprised to hear this was originally a UK show, and is now practically world-wide.
Some other tidbits:
Riders are often pre-selected and auditioned. They still don’t know they are part of the show though - they are told they made the first cut and a taxi will take them to the next part of the audition - and of course, when they get in the taxi the show starts.
They don’t really get the cash there. That is fake money. They get a check sent to them (minus taxes of course) later.
One of Ben Bailey’s crazier guests in a short article:
“I picked up a huge guy, as tall as me, about 6-feet-6, and he probably weighed 350 pounds. He was wearing a purple velour rabbit suit and 5-inch plastic heels. And he kept calling me “babe.” He got out and didn’t play. He realized what was going on and I guess he didn’t want to be on TV in his rabbit suit.”
I always wonder, when they have the late night show and pick up guests at 1:00 AM, who are these people calling for the mobile shout out? If I called any of my friends at 1:00 AM, there would be more than a mobile shout out…more of a “fuck you” shout back.
