Cat Food Dip

Now I know there’s a dip with this title. Some kind of salsa-thing, I believe. This is not what I’m looking for. I would truly like to know if it would be possible to make a palatable (even tasty!) dip using cat food. My room mate is so emphatic in his denial of this that of course my only option is to prove him wrong and have him sing its praises.

Huh? You want to make a palatable human food dip with cat food?

Of course it’s possible. There’s no reason why we can’t eat cat food. Add some spices and seasonings and it could pass as paté no problem. Especially with cracked pepper and a nice burgundy.

I tried my cat’s wet food once, to see what I was feeding Poopsie, and it wasn’t bad - just very bland compared to human food. I’m sure you could make a lovely dip out of it - like Leaffan says, it just needs some spices and seasoning. Maybe some salsa and melted Velveeta.

It depends on what you mean by ‘cat food’. Just start feeding your cat some fresh salmon

I agree. But he’s just certain that there’s NO WAY, NO WAY, NO WAY that I could feed him a sort of dip or spread containing cat food that he couldn’t identify as such. This will be fun.

All those “Collections” cookbooks that hairstylists, churches, etc, give out at Christmas have most everything containing cream cheese and sour cream, so I bet cat food wouldnt even be noticed in there. Pass it off as Crab Dip.

Such as

So, what, for weeks or months you’re going to be presenting him with “spot the cat food” appetizers until he finally recognizes one. I don’t get it. I don’t get what the rules of the game are.

Lots a flavors to choose from…I suspect the liver kitty pate’ might be best passable consistency, sans people spice.

Good Lord! I think I can safely say I’ve seen it all now here on the Dope.

BTW: Is eating cat food safe? Is cat food held to the same standards as regular food by the FDA?

I’d say it depends on the cat food. I wouldn’t eat the supermarket brands, but I believe some of the higher-end stuff is made with human-grade ingredients (or at least stuff that wouldn’t be potentially harmful to humans).

Besides, that old trope about little old ladies eating cat food had to come from somewhere, right? (Do little old ladies eat cat food anymore? Did they ever, really?)

I, too, am appalled and disgusted and, like in our numerous pimple threads, attracted in a completely unhealthy way. Eating canned cat food? BARF-O-RAMA.

Talk about it some more.

Hells yeah. I feed my cats one of them there high-end foods (Wellness, for those of you playing along at home) and it’s perfectly safe for people. Bland, I’ve heard, but that’s what spices are for. Grab some canned cat food and this isn’t even a challenge.

As a teenager I ate a Gains-burger dog food patty on a dare. It didn’t taste like a hamburger patty at all. :frowning:

Oh, man, I was tempted many times! The commercials made those look so good! But even when we had a dog my mom didn’t buy Gaines Burgers and I couldn’t think of a way to convince her to get them so I could try one.

Make sure there are no ingredients from China.

In the novel Prince of Tides, by Pat Conroy, there is a moment when the protagonist’s mother is trying to create the perfect recipe to include in the Society’s cooking newsletter. So for months and months she endeavors to make all sorts of recipes, foreign and exotic. Her husband bitches and whines and moans constantly.

It all comes to a head one day when she makes a type of sweetbreads. He pouts and asks for some plain old meat and potatoes. She, frustrated, goes in the kitchen and gets out a can of Alpo Dog Food. She uses garlic, onions, butter, simmers and sautees it, adds potatoes, and serves it to him. He LOVES it. He eats it with relish while the rest of the family giggles (to put that into perspective, he is an abusive dick who beats the whole family, too).

Anyway the story rings with truth. I bet I could serve up dog or cat food and make it delicious…hot. A cold dip might be a different idea, but I bet if you called it a “seafood dip”, added cheese, a little milk or cream to thin it, and served it with crackers, you could indeed serve Cat Food Dip.

Ah, I’d wondered how cats were gonna scoop a cracker.

This is fun! And educational. I’m thinking that the old people eating cat food thing is a myth simply because cat food costs about thee same (if not more) as tuna, as far as I know.

All I know is that one of my cat’s favorite flavors is Tuna and Egg, and I’ve sworn that if it comes down to it, I’m eating that! It smells good; looks good, too! No, haven’t tried it yet; haven’t run out of human food. But I could see that being a tuna dip, easy.

I’m not a Prawn, so I don’t think I’d find cat food all that tasty.
