I like the SDMB; I really do. There are plenty of smart and witty people here, entertaining and educating me - and everyone who reads it I guess!
However, it seems like the SDMB is not immune to the kitty craze sweeping the internet. And to be honest, the cat threads are getting on my nerves.
So, I’d like to suggest, like a fellow Doper* did some time ago, that we get to have a special cat forum on the Dope.

I think the SDMB’s little obsession with pets, cats in particular, pre-dates the lolcat et al craze or was at least concomitant with it. It’s a pretty common obsession really, what with 70-80 million pet cats in the U.S. alone and probably slightly more common than average among the less social geeky internet denizens ;). I myself try to ratchet back from sticking in my two cents in every goddamn cat thread, because frankly I think my brand of internet pedantry must get annoying enough in general, let alone every time you turn around to talk about your cat barfing.
So I sorta ( but only sorta, because I like pet threads ) get your point.
But frankly I doubt this board could support such a forum - too much moderator effort for too few threads to make it worthwhile. It does seem like pet threads are incredibly numerous, but I suspect that is at least half confirmation bias. The proposed politics forum would actually make a much more sensible split at this point and I’m not even sure that is worth it. Only so many moderators to go around, you know :).
I dunno. You probably could have a Pets & Other Cute Animals forum with pretty much no moderation; who would say mean things about a cutey-wutie widdle puddy tat?
ETA: Er, other than this guy, of course. 
There are only two cat-related threads on the front page of MPSIMS right now. Three if you count a topic about a Bulgarian sex kitten, but I don’t think that qualifies. I don’t see nearly enough demand for a whole forum, even if you include the occasional dog picture thread.
Dogs Rule. cats drool.
It really is that simple.
Why don’t you just give us a list of all the things you’re not interested in and we’ll split up the board into a few thousand different forums, one for each thing you don’t care about, so you never again have to see thread titles that don’t interest you?

You know, I used to be a cynical he-man cat-hater; I’d have been all over this thread going all “yeah, shaddup about the stupid cats!” or whatever, but now we have one (wife & kids won out), and I like the stupid thing.
