Don’t I recall that there was a major effort to show it to school kids and that parents had to take measures to opt out?

Hey…did you see the story about the Chicago teacher who told the kids that the right wants to kill all the “porch monkeys”? I know it’s just an isolated incident but I wanted to expose some more silliness to the ignorant.

But seriously, the Catholic Education Service mentioned in the OP is the organization in the Church that liaisons with Catholic-affiliated educational services in England and Wales.

The corresponding organization in Scotland is the Scottish Catholic Education Service, which answers to the Bishops of Scotland.

The SCES, apparently having a couple more brain cells to rub together than the Sassenach CES, seems to have stayed away from this schoolkids-petition-against-gay-marriage drive. However, I don’t know how or by whom that decision was made, nor why the CES and SCES are two separate organizations in the first place.

I wouldn’t get too hopeful about the Scottish Catholics, by the way. Let’s not forget Cardinal Keith O’Brien’s recent claim that legalising gay marriage would be “a grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right” and the government’s “intolerance will shame the United Kingdom in the eyes of the world”. O’Brien is currently the leader of the RCC in Scotland. Of course, it wasn’t a view well-received by the general populace.

Edicts mean nothing if no one is actually following them. That’s what I mean by tolerance. It’s no different from how it’s tolerated in other faiths, really. And nearly every Christian I’ve met has had sex at least once without being married. I’m outlier even amongst my fellow Christians.

As shown before, it is clear that the right wing propaganda just lied and continues to lie on this issue, and where opt-out is concerned there is a common denominator on those efforts, and it is just old fashion anti-science.

A bill is on Gov. Bill Haslam’s desk that would protect teachers if they allow criticism in the classroom of scientific concepts like evolution and global warming.

Versions of the measure have been working their way through the Legislature for years, but there’s a lot of uproar over this bill.

Critics say it’s taking Tennessee back nearly 90 years, when evolution was first attacked legally in the state.

Rep. Bill Dunn (R-Knoxville) sponsored the House version of the bill that’s now getting national attention.

“What the bill does is, it protects teachers. It says stick with scientific facts and you will be protected. Without this, teachers don’t know how far to go, what to do and get into trouble,” Dunn said.

Opponents say the bill is bringing controversy to science, which could confuse students.

“By legislating that somehow these particular topics are controversial, implying that it’s controversial on a scientific basis is confusing to students,” said Joanne Carney, of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The Tennessee Education Association also opposes the legislation, and the ACLU is calling it backwards.

But what is really silly is that your “example” is actually a thing that the Catholic Church is actually ok with, just like evolution.
