Is it common behavior for a cat to run around in mad dashes after a poop? After every poop, my cat will run from the bathroom to the porch doors then fly to the other side of the apartment, up the stairs (faster than humanly possible) and then finally calm down. I’m not that experienced with cats, so I do not know if this is normal.
Sounds exactly like my cat. It’s one of the two signs that she’s pooped.
The other one is the smell coming out of the vicinity of the litter box.
I’m wondering if this some sort of behavior they exhibit as if they were in the wild and they were trying to get away from their poop which might tip off a predator that they are nearby.
Any other guesses?
One of my cats, Misty, would always cry right before she took a big poop, well, when she was a kitten, anyways.
I think most cats do this-- dogs seem really happy and excited after pooping, too. Maybe it’s because they feel so light and relieved? I think pooping makes humans happy, too.
Inigo does this, and Mija too, to a lesser extent. I have no idea why.
Although–a cat behavior book I read suggested it may be due to uncomfortable litter texture. Sounds like malarkey to me, though.
My cat does the same thing, right after she “covers it up” by scratching the walls and the floor all around the litter box. Stupid cat.
Oh, Capybara! I just burst out laughing at that visual!
Wow, I thought my cat was the only one to do this. He comes charging out of that litter box like a bat out of hell, all the while making a peculiar high-pitched trilling noise. Then he’ll latch onto something, like a doorjamb or a table leg, and frantically look around the room as if he expects something to be chasing him. Then he’ll take off again like a rocket, making that same trilling noise. He does this for about five minutes before he calms down. It’s fun to watch.
Cats are afraid of that monster coming up out of the sand like in an old Outer Limits episode …
Mine does it too! Also sometimes when she’s just laying around she’ll start licking her back near her tail like crazy-then shoot up the stairs-maybe that’s a fart?Never heard it or smelled it.
She always-just like now-goes upstairs after eating, tho not at a madding clip. She usually reappears in abt.15 minutes.
This may have something to do with some primal instinct at being exposed as prey while they’re eating, disposing, then retreating to a safe place.
Or else they’re all nuts
I’d vote for nuts!!
