Cave-What a Turd!

Everything about this movie was formulaic and predictable. The outcome would be predicted 30 minutes into the flick. Is this how Hollywood runs? I’ll summarize for you: a bunch of looters break into an isolated Romanian church, hidden away in the Carpathian Mountains. They see a mosaic depicting winged vampire-like creatures, and decide to blow up the floor-Boom! Down they fall into a cave, and they never come out. Next, bearded scientist (Prof. Nicolai) discovers hidden cavern under wreckage of church-invites dive team of (good-looking, multi-ethnic young people) to explore the cave. Within days, the team is in Romania, and sends diver into cave. The lone diver enters a dry room, where he assaulted by something resembling a giant white mole. Then (ominous) the fiber optic communications cable snaps, so the rest of the team goes in. Now the fun starts-one member is eaten by a strange creature. The leader is also attacked. Team decides to push one in cave-one by one; good-looking young people are picked off by these horrible bat-like alien-faced monsters. Prof. Nicolai gets eaten as well-leader becomes disoriented (he is infected with strange parasite that causes him to become crazy). Anyway, after much mayhem, survivors reach cavern that looks like hell (burning gas jets). Still fending off bat-like monsters (one kills attractive, nubile young woman (”Charley”)). Young Asian-American photographer also gets horribly eaten.
Remaining three take last chances, dive into stream without oxygen; emerge into blue sky and sunshine. Final moments as survivors reflect on the horror, and break up in Romanian street café. Who knew vampires were so real and dangerous?
I’m glad I didn’t waste $8 on this turd?

You left out the totally surprising end where…

Female survivor turns out to be infected! OMG, so surprising! Can’t wait for the sequel!!!

Yeah, anyway. Sure, the plot was rather unspectacular, but I did enjoy the very Lovecraftian feel of it. Just for that, I consider it well worth the rental.

I agree. The visuals were good, as in the underground stuff AND Piper Perabo in tight pants. Very brainlessly entertaining!

I gotta see this now.
