CBS reports alleged plan to attack the Capitol tomorrow (edited title)

Cheeto-Faced Shit Gibbon.

You are very lucky! My twitter account was mysteriously “locked” by twitter on Sunday after retweeting tweets by Don Winslow. I don’t think that mine was the only one either, but since I’m locked out, I can’t say for certain. Twitter doesn’t even say you’ve broken some murky TOS anymore; they merely lock you into a mode where you endlessly request some “confirmation code sent to” your cellphone; a code that never comes.

Given this Coup attempt, the timing couldn’t be more suspicious.

Yep, we have no choice now. I don’t care if all we can charge them with is a parking ticket: we have to prosecute them if it’s in any way possible.

“Cheeto Faced Shit Gibbon” - that’s a little harsh on the gibbons, but otherwise acceptable.

Today’s events at the US Capitol were such a surprise. Imagine if the federal government had some warning that thousands of people were planning to travel to Washington DC (in the middle of a pandemic, mind you) and storm the seat of government. They could have had security in place to deal with the possible disruption and the process could have gone off as expected.

(Sarcasm, in case it’s not obvious.)

BTW, after I came home from work, I turned on Fox News just to see how they’d spin it when it’s their audience who are the ones rioting. They tried to blame Antifa and talked about how “bad actors” were responsible, caused mainly by having legal votes made illegitimate by thousands of illegal votes.

You forgot to include the media

I’m thinking that the powers that be knew exactly what could happen, and handled it actually pretty well.

They could have had a bunch of armed troops guarding the Capitol Building. The media images of “unarmed citizens” staring down heavily armed troops guarding the evil Demoncrats would have not looked great.

Instead, we got lots of video of idiotic bubbas illegally storming the building, and congressional members who were doing government business being forced to hide under their desks by the idiots.

THEN, the national guard comes in to save the day, and rounds up the criminals.

This makes for a much better look, in my opinion. And judging by the number of Republican rats who are jumping ship right now, this may have been the best outcome possible.

I tried to explain this POV to my wife, but I just couldn’t articulate it well enough. My comparing it to President Coin’s arramging to have bomblets dropped on the first responders at the end of the third Hunger Games book made it sound like I was somehow blaming Biden, which was the opposite of my intent.

I suspected that everybody knew this threat was there (as others pointed out elsewhere, many local businesses in the Capitol area closed and boarded up in advance), but that it’d be a no-win situation for the Trumpists: either they wave flags and do nothing, or storm the Capitol, get shown on TV for the lunatics they are - thus setting the stage to destroy their own position.

Biden didn’t have any responsibility to stop this, even if he was absolutely certain that it was going to happen. As the head of the Executive Branch, this is squarely on Trump’s shoulders, and he ran away to let his fellow Republicans take the blame.

And that’s exactly what the Trumplicans did; Destroy their own position.

And you are correct that it’s pretty hard to blame Biden. What was he supposed to do? Use his President-elect superpowers to command the police to do more?

Although I am sure that the usual suspects will be trying as hard as possible to shift the blame, even if that means blatantly lying about “how this was all the fault of a few bad apples, probably Antifa hiding amongst the good little Trumpers.”
